Loring Barnes for Public Good

Loring Barnes for Public Good As taxpayers and citizens, it is essential to remind legislators that they are entrusted stewards of our money.

We expect transparency, accountability, and tangible results—not the pursuit of their personal agendas at our expense. Transformation of government for greater accountability to the public it serves has been a constant of Loring's award-winning public relations career of more than three decades. In Boston she is known for leading numerous policy changes and service innovations at the MBTA with per

formance during FIFA (World Cup) and the Tall Ships that ultimately earned the attention and favor of the International Olympics Committee. Later, the CDC entrusted a signature national health advocacy campaign revamp to Loring and her team at Clarity. The outcomes were praised by the White House at a United Nations Special Assembly, with its recommendation that this program be replicated globally. Since settling in Millis in 1987, Loring has been contributing to her community in meaningful ways as a prolific volunteer, creating change and improving transparency. She was a founding member of MERIT, its Local Educational Foundation. She served as only the fifth woman elected to the Select Board in the town's history, notably as Chair during the tumultuous pandemic. In 2022 Loring was inspired to run for State Rep to be a vigorous advocate where a multitude of fiscal policy issues had hurt the residents of Millis and the three adjacent towns of its newly drawn Middlesex 8th District. So effective was her upbeat "Team Orange Crush" campaign of informed original ideas that it drew attention and participation by leaders of the US Congress and State House for oppositional field campaigning, opening the spigot of massive special interest spending. She may have been the underdog, but two years out, Loring remains engaged, informed on policy, and routinely asked to run again (she's not). She serves instead by appointment on the Millis Economic Development Committee which she installed as a new government function to support business and new revenue growth years earlier. She was also one of only two MA residents to testify during the MSBA's statewide policy tour to call attention to proposed new regulations that would limit the voice of towns seeking to finance public school projects. Loring is a retained writer and reputation consultant to executive leaders and organizations seeking stronger messaging and communications strategy for their ideas, purpose, and goals. She was named to the Public Relations Society of America's College of Fellows in 2017, this profession's highest recognition. She was similarly honored by its Boston Chapter of which she is a past president. She was named an "Alumnae to Watch" as part of the UMass Amherst's 125th Anniversary. Beyond broad charitable support, Loring currently serves on the Patient Family Advisory Council of New England Baptist Hospital. Her previous board and community service, exclusive of conference keynotes, includes: UMass Amherst Alumni Association Board of Directors, Hospitality Homes (donated patient and caregiver housing), The PR Club, Millis Council on Aging, Millis Communications & Website Committee, Millis Emergency Management Committee and the Town Administrator Search Task Force.

As we head to local polls this spring, you might ask candidates their position on the of the state legislature. For example— 70% of my town voted in favor. Knowing every candidate’s position on the overdue audit is a litmus test of transparency, accountability, lawfulness, and reclaiming missing and squandered funds for our towns.

Rep. Markey, your red herring post (below) falls somewhere between laughable and luducrous. It underscores how tone deaf you’ve become to your constituents— all MA taxpayers, not just “blue.”

Maybe consult with the Governor who appoints the State Energy Commissioners, restricts taxpayer and bill payer energy choices, and shut down pipelines that would have diversified our energy options and lowered costs for residents and employers. Are you not watching the nation’s highest exodus from our state because “Taxachusetts” reins? Do you not read about unchecked MA government spending with seemingly endless fraud, the crushing burden of the cost of overrides to families and retirees, and inflationary energy fees for services we don’t receive?

It’s the Tea Party all over again: Taxation Without Representation.

Perhaps outwardly advocate in support the MA Audit to arrest financial fraud and wasteful spending. Imagine how MA would flourish with employers which could pay soaring insurance rates. Consider the windfall of reclaiming billions (with a “B”) of taxpayer money for both Cape bridges, our schools, affordable housing, and senior servuces. Stop allowing Congress to enoy its own rules for lucrative financial gain.

Start with term limits.

Taxachusetts is back. The growing list of spending fraud and the failure to conduct the Legislature Audit combine to produce anger and mistrust. We’ve had too much “taxation without representation.” Now a $10M spend on World Cup viewer parties? The waste is absurd as are our inflated energy bills which don’t just hurt in the winter. We need to elect change and balance. A one-state party never works. Ask Ohio.

🚨Beacon Hill is threatening us if we dare vote to keep some of our own money!🚨

That’s right; State House insiders are already sending a clear message: if you vote to cut your income taxes next November, they’re prepared to punish you for it, because they believe it’s their money, not yours.

As your State Treasurer, I will stand firmly against any effort to punish taxpayers for wanting relief. I will fight for transparency, responsible fiscal management, and a government that respects your choices instead of trying to control them. I will audit every department of the Treasurer’s Office, and I will fight to return more money to cities, towns, and taxpayers.

This election is about trust and about whether the Treasurer’s Office will stand with the people or with the insiders. It is time for a Taxpayers’ Treasurer.

Mr. Speaker: As a voter among the 72% statewide majority that set the Legislature Audit into law in 2024, please don’t insult your constituents. We did not intended for you foxes to pretend to audit the closed-chambers chicken coop where billions of our money is spent. Your unlawful obstruction is duly noted.

P.S.: This campaign ad is a masterstroke!

This podcast is a financial ear-opener for any MA taxpayer who wants to know more about where our money goes, and doesn’t. Revenue from the Lottery, MA School Building Authority, and the Cannabis Control Commission, are administered by one elected state official: the State Treasurer. I learned a lot about Elizabeth Dionne’s campaign to bring us sunlight of full disclosure and spending restructuring, the Hail Mary pass our personal checkbooks and municipal budgets need— now.

When I talk to friends across the country, they ask me why MA has more residents leaving the state than any other. This story certainly isn't helpful. If there isn't anything to hide in how taxpayer money is being spent, open the Chamber doors and submit to the People's Audit.

A new Pioneer Institute poll found low favorability rating for the Massachusetts Legislature among respondents and high support for measures like auditing state lawmakers and subjecting the politic…
