We love to see our volunteers having a great time in the field! Pfizer Global Health Fellow, Sandy, is spending three months in India building the capacity of our monitoring and evaluation processes. Last month, three incredible volunteers (doctors and nurses) from the US traveled to Wuhan, China to provide critical training on palliative care. In two short weeks, they were able to train 25 master trainers and 700 health care workers! The cascading effect of these training courses will benefit Chinese patients for years to come. Thank you for your high-impact service Carma, Sandy and Gary!

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to reflect back on the amazing contributions from one of our volunteers. “Karen was one of dozens of Project HOPE volunteers that deployed to Puerto Rico in the months directly after Hurricane Maria struck. As a mental health specialist, she worked alongside Project HOPE’s medical response team counseling disaster survivors. Many of the people she talked to had lost their homes or were separated from loved ones.”

Dr. Andre Gvozden and Edison Rodrigues Junior, RN are two Brazilian volunteers who stepped up, and within just a few days of being notified, eagerly jumped on a plane to provide care to the survivors of Cyclone Idai in Mozambique. They delivered medical care to hundreds of people and by helicopter were able to get to hard-to-reach areas that hadn't yet received care. We admire you and are so grateful for your service! #projecthope #volunteer #mozambique #cycloneidai

The dedication that our volunteers show to Project HOPE’s mission is truly inspiring. Earlier this month, Project HOPE celebrated the 20th anniversary celebration of the Gaucher Initiative in Egypt. A huge part of this program’s success is due to the volunteers who have served years (some more than 20 years) on the Expert Medical Committee, which guides training and treatment protocol regarding this rare disease. A heartfelt THANKS to these volunteers and their longterm commitment to saving lives with Project HOPE.

#tbt As our emergency response to the #earthquake and #tsunami in #Indonesia continues, we are reminded Project HOPE’s first mission was to Indonesia in 1960. Doctors and nurses sailed aboard the S.S. HOPE to partner with their Indonesian counterparts to provide care for those in need.

Our Emergency Response Team is doing critical work in Indonesia following the earthquakes and tsunami on Sulawesi Island. Interested in a Situation Report? E-mail [email protected]. Please consider donating to this important mission.

“I’ve been to many disasters as an emergency responder, but this one is definitely one of the worst. And this is just Palu. I can’t even imagine the situation in other cities.” - Vlatko Uzevski, MD, Emergency Response Team, Project HOPE

The scale of destruction from the #earthquake and #tsunami in #Indonesia is overwhelming. Thousands remain injured, homeless and without access to food and health care.

Vlatko, a member of our emergency response team, quickly shared his impression of the shattered world he encountered in Palu. Read Vlatko’s first impressions here:

Are you up-to-date on the situation in Venezuela?

#Venezuela used to have one of the strongest #TB prevention and control systems in South America, but as the country falls further into crisis, TB cases are beginning to spread more rapidly along with other once containable diseases.
