Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) webinar- November 9, 1:00 pm

DMC is a voluntary risk management program provided by the U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is available to dairy producers. This program helps producers manage risks associated with changing milk and feed prices. The margin protection program utilizes the All-Milk price less a ration cost to produce 100 pounds of milk. DMC ensures a producer-selected margin amount, thus providing both milk price and feed price risk management.
When electing coverage, producers have two main selection criteria to consider:
1. Percent coverage of annual historic production
2. Margin coverage level

Silage Season Safety

• Silo Gas: In confined space can cause serious harm during the first 3 week window after filling. VENTILATE thoroughly!

• Bunker Silos: Duals and a large front end will improve stability and traction in areas where a tractor can easily roll over.

• Equipment Inspections: We are all aware that harvesting can take a lot of time, so don't forget to inspect all your equipment, and fix any broken pieces. Both other people and road safety will gain from this.

• Self-Care: Harvest may require you to work long hours, so be sure to get enough rest and take care of your physical and mental health. We commit more mistakes when we are not vigilant. Don't rush and keep an eye out for kids.

• Turn your machine off if it gets plugged or to unclog any piece of equipment.

It's National Farm Safety and Health Week. Agriculture is known as one of the most dangerous industries in America. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), about 100 agricultural workers suffer a lost-work-time injury every day, and in 2019 the agriculture industry had a fatality rate of 19.4 deaths per 100,000 workers. National Farm Safety and Health Week has been recognized during the third week of September since President Roosevelt established it in 1944 to help bring attention to the risks of working in agriculture.

This year, AgriSafe has daily webinars for agricultural health and safety professionals, healthcare providers, extension agents, producers, farmers, ranchers, and farmworkers. Our partners at the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) coined this year’s theme “Protecting Agriculture’s Future,” reminding all of us that the cornerstone of sustainable agriculture is healthy and safe workers.
