When survivors limit their access to technology, it becomes more challenging for survivors to keep in touch with family and friends, as well as limits their access to valuable resources.

As we wrap up Stalking Awarenss Month, it is important to know how to respond if a stalking victim shares their concerns with you. How you respond makes a huge difference and can be lifesaving.

What you can do is trust their instincts and help connect him/her to appropriate resources where he/she can learn about documenting, creating a safety plan, and reporting to law enforcement.

The 10 to 10 Helpline | A free, anonymous, and confidential intimate partner abuse prevention helpline, serving Massachusetts adults and teens.

10 to 10 Helpline is a new initiative aimed at reducing domestic violence serving the Massachusetts community.

This is the first helpline created to offer help and support to abusers or potential abusers before an incident takes places.

“We don’t want to keep looking to victims and survivors to solve domestic violence, and only look to them. We want to pull into people who are being abusive and say, ‘look you are part of the community.’” - Monica Moran, manager of Domestic Violence Prevention Services for the Pioneer Valley Planning Comission in Springfield.

ESC has developed defined plans to address domestic violence revictimization, by strategically assessing victim safety and offender behaviors.

The Woman on the Bridge

“Only 27 percent of female victims and 13.5 percent of male victims make police reports to begin with, according to data from the Department of Justice. When charges are brought, the vast majority of victims — 80 percent is a common estimate — recant or change their testimony before the case reaches trial. At that point, many prosecutions sputter out or are pleaded down to misdemeanors. “No face, no case,” as the defense lawyers put it”.

Police and prosecutors spent five years chasing a domestic violence case. Would it be enough?

What is Every Second Counts?

Our mission is to end domestic violence revictimization. Our vision is to see an evidenced based and community lead approach to domestic violence intervention. In starting this organization, we hope to strengthen partnerships among law enforcement, district attorney’s office, victim advocates and community members, in an effort to fight back against domestic violence.

Victim advocacy is a rewarding yet complex profession and we are so proud to call ourselves domestic violence advocates!

We take great pleasure in bringing this new organization to the greater Milwaukee area and we look forward to serving the community.

Stop the cycle 🛑

Researchers have estimated that between 3.3 million and 10 million children are exposed to adult domestic violence each year.

According to the U.S Department of Justice, the majority of U.S. nonfatal intimate partner victimization of women (two-thirds) occur at home where children reside.

PASSION LEAD US HERE - Every Second Counts Inc

According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, in 2017 law enforcement agencies in Milwaukee County took nearly 9,423 domestic violence reports. Those same agencies referred about 7,744 cases to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for a charging decision, misdemeanor battery being the top referred charge. The District Attorney’s Office charged roughly 1,752 of those cases, misdemeanor battery being the top charged. The court convicted nearly 798 defendants, with disorderly conduct being the top convicted charge.

What this data shows, is an overwhelming number of domestic violence reports being taken by law enforcement and an extreme overload of cases being prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Office. As it stands right now, the burden to hold those who abuse accountable is placed on the victim and relies heavily on the consistency of their statement and cooperation with the criminal justice system.

A DAY IN DENIM!

Denim Day is an educational campaign in response to Italian Supreme Court’s overruling of a r**e conviction in the 1990’s. In this case, although the assailant had been found guilty at the trial, the Supreme Court overturned the conviction arguing that the victim was wearing jeans so tight it would have been impossible for the assailant to have removed the jeans without the help of the victim, implying consent.

Wearing denim on Denim Day shows survivors that we stand with them, we support them and most importantly, we believe them! At Every Second Counts, we stand in solidarity by wearing denim! We vow to spread awareness and work towards correcting the misconceptions around sexual violence and victim blaming behaviors.

Are you wearing your denim?!

We had the privilege of working with Every Second Counts; they are a non-profit in Milwaukee whose mission is to end domestic violence revictimization over the last few months.

Initially, we started with the branding for their brand new non-profit and moved on to their website. We created a beautiful color palette that translated really well throughout the website. Also included in their branding was the insignia/symbol from their logo that can also be used on it's own that still represents the brand.
