On the Fourth of July, Langston Verdin, Leader of Strategic Partnerships, noticed that the air quality in his neighborhood jumped to very unhealthy levels. At the same time, fireworks were going off. Read the story below to learn more about how the Wisconsin Asthma Coalition is monitoring the air quality in Southeastern Wisconsin communities.

A Year at the Alliance: Rachel Mazzara nears end of HealthCorps experience - Children's Health Alliance of Wisconsin

Rachel Mazzara always knew that she wanted to work with kids, and that she wanted to be involved in health care. But she didn't know that public health was her calling until late in her undergraduate education.

Rachel applied for a Wisconsin HealthCorps position in 2019 and now, her year with us is approaching it's end. Starting in August, Rachel will begin studying for her Masters in Public Health at Saint Louis University.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) have developed the Asthma Home Environment Checklist to help guide home visitors (e.g., community health workers, nurses, asthma educators) to start a dialogue with the family that is tailored for the home to reduce environmental triggers.

This checklist guides home care visitors in identifying environmental asthma triggers most commonly found in homes. It includes sections on the building, home interior and room interior and provides low-cost action steps for remediation.
