Milwaukee Cares Mask Ordinance to Go into Effect July 16

Milwaukee Cares Mask Ordinance to Go into Effect July 16

To date, 360 individuals in Milwaukee County have died from COVID-19, and over 14,000 people have tested positive. We have work to do as a community, as a state, and as individuals to flatten the curve and stop the spread of the virus.

We have an obligation to take the necessary steps to make Milwaukee a safer place for everyone. Today, I signed the Common Council’s adopted ordinance requiring face coverings in public spaces, both indoors and outdoors.

The ordinance goes into effect Thursday, July 16, and will be enforced until the Moving Milwaukee Forward order is lifted. In addition, the City of Milwaukee Health Department will coordinate the purchasing and distribution of free masks for the community that will be available upon request.

Under this ordinance, anyone ages three and older must wear a face covering when they find themselves around people outside of their household. When outdoors, the face covering must be worn when you are within 6 feet of another person.

Exceptions are made for individuals with conditions or disabilities for whom no other accommodation can be offered and under certain settings.

The Election Commission is dedicated to re-opening neighborhood voting sites for the August 11 and November 3 elections... but WE NEED YOUR HELP! Many of our longstanding senior election workers will not be able to work. Masks (for workers and voters), face shields, sanitizer, disinfectants and social distancing will be used in the operation of every site. We desperately need Milwaukee County residents to step forward, sign up and protect access to voting. Be a part of democracy... sign up to be an election worker by clicking the below link.
