Our meal programs have taken quite a hit throughout the COVID 19 Pandemic however YOUR generousity, support from Hunger Task Force & our staff's committment have kept us going strong but it has been difficult.

SVDP MASKS FOR MEALS CAMPAIGN seeks to help fill the gaps our meal program has faced by having to provide most meals instead of having meals brought in, providing beverages daily and using To Go Containers/disposable silverware daily. These have added expenses to our budget we just were not prepared for.

By making a gift to our 2020 Campaign "Masks for Meals" supporting our Meal Program, you are creating food stability and having a lasting impact in our community! Please click the link below and please 'note' your gift is for this campaign in the "add special instructions" section.

We are excited to announce that we will re-open today, Sunday, May 3rd, 2020. We will use staggered serving of To Go Meals to ensure we are not congregating in groups larger than 10 people. Service will begin at 4 p.m. & end at 6:15 p.m.

All of our guests who do not have one will be given a mask with their meal tomorrow. After tomorrow, all guests must wear a mask to be served.

You must adhere to social distancing, no hand to hand contact will take place & once you receive a meal you must leave.

We will have staff outside to answer questions, monitor social distancing & enforce PPE guidelines. These policies will be in place until May 26th, 2020.

Reflection on the Words of St. Vincent de Paul

During this time when we may feel hopeless to help, take some time to ponder the encourging words of our patron saint.

“God wishes you to attend to your patients’ spiritual necessities as well as their physical needs.”

“The good God will not fail to supply your need since it concerns His service, and He will do it in one way or another.”

“Your patients need a share of your joy.”

“All ships are exposed to storms but are not thereby doomed to perish. May Our Lord be your Strength, your Protector, your Sanctifier.”

St. Vincent de Paul has closed our doors due to the COVID 19 Crisis and our desire to ensure everyone is "Safer at Home". During our absence, we encourage everyone to utilize 211 for any needs (housing, health, food, etc.)

Staff at 211 can help you remotely or can meet you to set up assistance.

Please continue to check our social media page to see when we will open back up again.

Today St Vincent de Paul Meal program was honored to remember the life of our angel, Lillie Mae Wilder, on the 2nd anniversary of her passing.

Our little angel who's Dad is Harambee Kitchen's Site Coordinator, Quartterri Wilder, & who's Mom, Jessica Romo, is one of our South Side volunteers along with Lillie's older sisters & brothers is always in hearts.

Today in her memory all of our North Side guests got a Lillie sized bottle of hand sanitizer & a reminder that Little Angel's are watching over us.

Rest in Paradise Lillie, you are loved, missed & cherished always. ♥️

"It's important for us to remember that home isn't always a safe place for everyone," said Carmen Pitre, executive director of the Sojourner Family Peace Center.
Since last week, Sojourner has seen an increase in police referrals to the hotline as officers respond to domestic violence incidents in Milwaukee County, Pitre said.
"It puts them in close proximity to their abusers and it's already a very high-stress environment. That dynamic makes it worse," said Karin Tyler, injury and violence prevention coordinator for the city's Office of Violence Prevention.
Coronavirus has led to rising unemployment, which adds to anxiety and limits financial options — and further cuts off connection to the outside world, Pitre said.
No matter the situation — quarantine or not — people in an abusive relationship should have a safety plan, said Tia Love-DeBenedetto, an advocate at The Asha Project, which serves African American women in Milwaukee.
"It's my strongest belief if you are in a very dangerous situation and you do need to leave, that shouldn't be postponed," she said.
Resources:
The Sojourner Family Peace Center in Milwaukee operates a 24-hour confidential hotline at (414) 933-2722. Sojourner's shelter remains open and has beds available for clients who get screened in. The center is taking walk-in clients at 619 W. Walnut St. and following state public health guidance.
Milwaukee County court remains open for restraining order injunction hearings and for new filings for restraining orders. It is recommended to call ahead: (414) 278-5079 for the latest guidance.
The Milwaukee Women's Center also offers a hotline at (414) 671-6140 and its shelter remains open.
The Asha Project provides a crisis line from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at (414) 252-0075.
The National Domestic Violence Hotline can be reached at (800) 799-7233 or by texting LOVEIS to 22522.

During these trying times, we are committed to preparing fresh, nutritious meals that fill our guests bellies & souls.

We are saddened at the hit that the food service industry is taking especially staff now laid off but we are grateful that your generosity will help us feed our hungry guests.

Thank you so much to Walker's Lounge, Old Country Buffet & Starbucks for your generosity.

We were sad today to learn that due new CDC recommendations we had to do "To Go" meals for our guests at the meal programs. Research shows homeless people spend 70% of their day alone, sometimes we are their only human contact but we have to keep everyone safe.

Super grateful to have a wonderful staff, board, & volunteers who are dedicated to serving people regardless of the logistics.

We really can use help in the coming days as well as "To Go
Containers", plastic silverware, bottled water & prepackaged snacks.

Thank you ♥️

03/14/2020

St. Vincent de Paul Meal Program is committed to keeping our doors open during the Coronavirus Pandemic. Daily we strive to protect our guests, staff & volunteers from being infected with the common cold, flu and now Coronavirus.

We serve a very needy population, many have no health insurance, we take every precaution to keep the people visiting our meal programs healthy, at this time, we will up our efforts to continue to do that while continuing to serve hot, nutritious meals.

With the closure of Milwaukee Area Schools, we will definitely hope to remain open to help feed the children of our community. We continue to welcome volunteers and literally rely on you to keep us a float.

Cross Roads Kitchen is open Sunday - Friday from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. Volunteers can check in with Amanda or Chris. You need only show up.

If you have a group and would like to donate bag lunches, snacks, cereal or milk so the kids have a snack to take home and get them through the day until dinner, please contact our meal sites or inbox us for more information.

Thank you for your commitment to SVDP & our guests.
