Perseverance! Great read....

LT Col. Russell Maples is currently the highest ranking black trooper at the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. He is one of two deputy chiefs serving under the Chief of the Highway Patrol. He was a graduate of the 43rd Academy in 1988. That academy started with 8 black cadets and LTC Maples says he remembers people saying the patrol had lowered their standards to let them in. He says they took that to heart and decided to prove those people wrong. He was the first black trooper assigned to Troop G Grady County. And he remembers that it was the first time many Oklahomans in that part of the state had experienced a black law enforcement officer. His first court case there, he said many troopers showed up to see how he would perform. It was over a ticket he had issued as a result of a collision. Maples said he displayed a combined speed formula during that case which the defense attorney could not argue against. He won that case and earned the respect of his colleagues as well as the nickname “professor.” Since Maples’ time in Grady County, 3 other black troopers have served there. #ohp #blackhistorymonth

I added a photo and the post is botched. I cannot seem to retrieve it. My apologies.

This is only a suggestion, this issue should be an agenda item at a future meeting. I remember conversations I had with people after the Castile killing asking how to survive a police encounter. These were college-educated professional people. What bothered me is "surviving" a police encounter. No law-abiding citizen should have to worry about surviving contact with the Police. I think this organization among others can do outreach that alleviates fear without perceived cop-bashing. Again, only a suggestion.
We are inviting all members of the National Black State Trooper Coalition to this wonderful event. We are doing this for you. We are honoring Lt. Greg Williams, NJ State Trooper at this event. We are so proud. Also other law enforcement will be honored as well.
BBB rates you with a D-. You should think about that. There are better organizations to donate to if you want to help the thin blue line.
