#Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot caught our attention when she took a no-nonsense approach to fighting #COVID19 in her city, using social media to dispense doses of reality and tough love.

Don’t miss out as she shares insight into her approach and how she’s tackling the dual pandemics of racism and COVID-19. She’ll be joined by Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms for a conversation moderated by Byron Pitts.

Tune in this Thursday, August 13 starting at 2PM ET for the #StateofBlackAmerica virtual series. Watch via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and at NUL.org. #SOBAUnmasked

Maleak Taylor is a rising leader in the North Division High School community. He is captain of the Drumline, a dedicated member of Running Rebels Community Organization and carries himself as a light and positive influence to his peers. Much of this development has come from his work with Project Ready. Project Ready is a national program that we facilitate in several of our partner schools in the community, where we guide 6th - 12th-grade students to make decisions that will propel them academically while participating in cultural enrichment opportunities. Young people also develop important skills, attitudes, and aptitudes for a successful transition from middle to high school that will prepare them for college, future employment, and life.

🚨 Black communities are at risk of being undercounted in the #2020Census and we’re sounding the alarm. New reports shows low response rates across heavily populated Black areas - both urban and rural. 🚨Not being counted = losing BILLIONS of dollars in funding for critical community programs like Head Start, school lunch, SNAP, hospitals, roads and so much more. 🚨The good news? We can change course if we act ASAP. Fill out your #Census form online via your cell phone, tablet or laptop. It’s 10 easy questions + takes 10 mins (or less). *Starting today, we’ll be featuring the Milwaukee Urban League all week long through our email and social channels as part of our monthly initiative to help amplify the voices of organizations and businesses that fight against racial injustice and improve the lives of those in Milwaukee’s African American community.*

Established in 1919 as an affiliate of the National Urban League (NUL), Milwaukee Urban League (MUL) is one of numerous NUL affiliates established during the early 20th century, when millions of African Americans migrated northward from southern states in search of greater opportunities and a better way of life. Today, the Milwaukee Urban League offers numerous programs and services that are designed to help African Americans and other underrepresented communities achieve civil rights and social and economic equality so they can become more self-reliant members of society led through education, employment, and advocacy to achieve economic vibrancy and equal access to all industries and disciplines that position African Americans to create wealth and live a better quality of life.
