“True belonging is the spiritual practice of believing in and belonging to yourself so deeply that you can share your most authentic self with the world and find sacredness in both being a part of something and standing alone in the wilderness. True belonging doesn’t require you to change who you are; it requires you to be who you are.”

Education is not just preparation for life. It is part of life. As educators, we have been gifted with a most precious thing - the opportunity to be part of a family’s story. It is up to us to make the time we have been given worthy of such a gift.

Many people talk about providing young people with structure without recognizing that there is a difference between structure and control. Structure is the combination of supports you provide young people to help them succeed in their environments. Control is what you do to make sure they don’t step outside of the structure. Young people learn from and appreciate structure but often rebel against and struggle to learn from control.

Game-changing insights on bullying from a top US researcher - NetFamilyNews.org

New research on bullying shows the positive impact of many of the Alliance key practices and shares insights on the connection between homophobia and sexual harassment in schools, "For that reason, even though most bullying prevention programs don’t factor in gender, they need to, she said in her talk. “We have to recognize that this socialization process, this homophobia and sexual harassment that happens to both boys and girls happens way before we send them to college."

This is Part 1 of my 2017 update on bullying and cyberbullying in the U.S. Part 2 will be insights from students themselves. If we want schools to be safe for all kids, we cannot ignore the direct connections between bullying, sexual harassment and homophobic name-calling in middle school. That’s ac...

Good morning, everyone. You may have noticed a few changes to this page. That's because the district is creating a template for all schools to use for their pages, and they want those pages all to be centralized. I wanted to be sure to stay connected with all of you, though, so I made this page my own and as soon as there is a new Alliance page, I will let you know here.

Happy new school year, Alliance students and families! School starts for all of our students on Monday, Aug. 3rd. You'll be happy to hear that the Board renewed our charter contract late last night. There was just one change to our program that the contract negotiators insisted on - that students attend school on Tuesdays from 11:40-3:40 (instead of the online class or community service placement days). There will be bus service, every day including Tuesdays, so if you haven't heard from the transportation office yet, your child will be able to find out his or her Tuesday bus pickup time on Monday. We apologize for the last minute change, but we are looking forward to a great year, no matter what the schedule looks like. Have a great weekend, and we'll see you all very soon!

We're getting close to travel time, but we still have a bit of fundraising to do to make this trip complete. If you would like to make a donation, but don't really need an Alliance hoodie, here is a link to our PayPal donation page: http://www5.milwaukee.k12.wi.us/school/alliance/donate/

As public school budgets become more and more challenging, we count on you to continue providing a challenging and competitive education for our youth. Please give generously. Thank you for all of your support!
