Alderman Cavalier "Chevy" Johnson was elected in 2016 to represent the residents of Milwaukee's 2nd Aldermanic District on the Milwaukee Common Council.
Cavalier "Chevy" Johnson sought the opportunity to serve as Alderman because he believes in Milwaukee. Through his work, Chevy has been committed to serving Milwaukee's neighborhoods, residents, and it's future. Chevy’s commitment to his district and city began at an early age. At 14 years old, he was selected by the YMCA to participate in a pre-college program for low-income MPS students. That very same program, Sponsor-A-Scholar, solidified Chevy’s life commitment to community service and making Milwaukee better for future generations. Chevy attended UW-Madison and returned home to work with the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board (MAWIB). While there, Chevy served at-risk youth, youth entering the workforce for the first time, and adults retooling to enter the workforce for the last time. Chevy has also served on boards at the Milwaukee YMCA, ACLU, and Milwaukee Community Brainstorming. Before serving as Second District Alderman, Chevy served our community as a Community Outreach Liaison for City government where he worked diligently with community and faith leaders to find creative solutions to some of Milwaukee’s most pressing issues facing families from all walks of life. Service has been the hallmark of Chevy's life and that's why he's proud to serve as Alderman in Milwaukee's Second District where he will focus issues like public safety, investing in our infrastructure, and economic development. Chevy is a graduate of MPS Bay View High School and UW-Madison. Chevy is engaged to Dominique and their young son is named Oliver.

✨If you follow the City Channel, you may have seen today’s Feature Friday honoree, Chris Lee, hard at work ensuring that public meetings run smoothly! As a Staff Assistant in the Council Records Section of the Office of the Common Council-City Clerk, Chris handles the behind-the-scenes administrative work to set up and arrange meetings for various City committees and other bodies, staffs their meetings, takes meeting minutes, and handles legislative files. He enjoys working with professionals to advance their missions, in the process learning from their deliberations and gaining insight about the various important topics that those bodies handle.
Following graduation from college, the City of Milwaukee was Chris’s first major employer. From 2007 to 2010, Chris performed receptionist duties for the License Division. From 2008 to 2011, he worked as a License Specialist, at which time he was promoted to Staff Assistant. He has been serving in his current role for nearly ten years.
Chris chose to work for the City because he comes from a political science background and enjoys public service. Milwaukee is his home, where his family resides. His City of Milwaukee employment has given him the opportunity not only to gain professional experience, but also to raise a family. In his job as well as in his private life, he tries his best to help the City to the best of his ability, be part of the solution, and contribute as much as possible. This action requires the budget office to present the council with a model police budget with a reduction of 10% or about $30 million. Those funds could be used for violence prevention, housing, and a host of other preventative measures. The bottom line is that police funding is broken and the relationship between the community and law enforcement needs to re-examined. This helps us to see how that might happen.
