Alderman Cavalier Johnson

Alderman Cavalier Johnson Alderman Cavalier "Chevy" Johnson was elected in 2016 to represent the residents of Milwaukee's 2nd Aldermanic District on the Milwaukee Common Council.

Cavalier "Chevy" Johnson sought the opportunity to serve as Alderman because he believes in Milwaukee. Through his work, Chevy has been committed to serving Milwaukee's neighborhoods, residents, and it's future. Chevy’s commitment to his district and city began at an early age. At 14 years old, he was selected by the YMCA to participate in a pre-college program for low-income MPS students. That very same program, Sponsor-A-Scholar, solidified Chevy’s life commitment to community service and making Milwaukee better for future generations. Chevy attended UW-Madison and returned home to work with the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board (MAWIB). While there, Chevy served at-risk youth, youth entering the workforce for the first time, and adults retooling to enter the workforce for the last time. Chevy has also served on boards at the Milwaukee YMCA, ACLU, and Milwaukee Community Brainstorming. Before serving as Second District Alderman, Chevy served our community as a Community Outreach Liaison for City government where he worked diligently with community and faith leaders to find creative solutions to some of Milwaukee’s most pressing issues facing families from all walks of life. Service has been the hallmark of Chevy's life and that's why he's proud to serve as Alderman in Milwaukee's Second District where he will focus issues like public safety, investing in our infrastructure, and economic development. Chevy is a graduate of MPS Bay View High School and UW-Madison. Chevy is engaged to Dominique and their young son is named Oliver.

Chris a rockstar on the Common Council-City Clerk team!

✨If you follow the City Channel, you may have seen today’s Feature Friday honoree, Chris Lee, hard at work ensuring that public meetings run smoothly! As a Staff Assistant in the Council Records Section of the Office of the Common Council-City Clerk, Chris handles the behind-the-scenes administrative work to set up and arrange meetings for various City committees and other bodies, staffs their meetings, takes meeting minutes, and handles legislative files. He enjoys working with professionals to advance their missions, in the process learning from their deliberations and gaining insight about the various important topics that those bodies handle.

Following graduation from college, the City of Milwaukee was Chris’s first major employer. From 2007 to 2010, Chris performed receptionist duties for the License Division. From 2008 to 2011, he worked as a License Specialist, at which time he was promoted to Staff Assistant. He has been serving in his current role for nearly ten years.

I'm looking forward to joining Mike Gousha for an "On the Issues" conversation with Aaron Glantz, award-winning investigative reporter and author of “Homewreckers". This action requires the budget office to present the council with a model police budget with a reduction of 10% or about $30 million. Those funds could be used for violence prevention, housing, and a host of other preventative measures. The bottom line is that police funding is broken and the relationship between the community and law enforcement needs to re-examined. This helps us to see how that might happen.

We are all heartbroken, frustrated, disappointed, upset, and just plain tired of tragic events that end up in the loss of life for people of color across the United States. We should raise our voices against injustice — just like the generations before us. But, we must make sure that we do so in a manner that is safe for everyone.

Collectively, leaders of our city are asking for Milwaukeeans who decide to engage in protests to do so in a peaceful and respectful manner. Together we can ...

48.8% of Milwaukee households have responded to Census, lagging the state and national pace

Wisconsin received over $12 billion after responding to the 2010 census to support things like schools, healthcare, WIC and more. Every response counts to help us bring resources to our community. At 48% complete, we’re behind the state and national averages. Make sure that you complete and return your 2020 census questionnaires, Milwaukee!

That's compared to 51.6% nationally and 58.4% in Wisconsin, said Marilyn Sanders, regional director of the U.S. Census Bureau Chicago Regional Office.

Good morning Alderman Johnson. Is your FB page monitored for questions that your constituents ask? Thank you.
Last Night in the 5100 of 66th we all ticketed 50.00 For WHAT ?
Thank you for your initiation against plastic straws in Milwaukee. This is one step in the right direction. If businesses are not regulated they do NOT change on their own. Alderman Donovan is a dinosaur who need to retire from public life and spend his time yelling at kids to get off his grass. He's never in step with the realities of living in 2019 and the repercussions for the future. People who are forward thinking need to stand up to provincial people like him (who do not listen to constituents and is a loudmouth on top of it). I wish the State would follow suit and prohibit plastic straws (for a start) statewide. Thank you again for taking up this cause.
Alderman Johnson, I am so sorry your children experienced this violence, shaking their sense of peace and security. I am glad there was no injury. Thank you for your wise words on this issue, and the public service you render.
My guess is you cowards won't post my original question.
Do you think the person that shot your car was a white guy that supported the NRA? What specific gun laws would you like to see enacted?
Mr. Johnson thank you for making a very true statement regarding the gun violence problem, not only in the City but the State and this Country. I couldn’t agree more. Something needs to be done about the inaction in our State Capital and the White House. Blessings to you and your family.
