"People’s Action hit on all cylinders in D.C. –with rallies, protests and marches, and in committee rooms and offices and on Capitol Hill. Three of our members – Robert Kraig from Citizen Action of Wisconsin, Kristy Fogle from Progressive Maryland and Savanna Lyons from West Virginia Citizen Action Group – were invited by Rep. Jayapal to join the House Rules Committee’s first-ever meeting on Medicare For All on Tuesday."

We just won a huge victory in the fight for Medicare For All: the House Ways and Means Committee has announced they will hold, for the first time, hearings on the Medicare For All Act Of 2019…

Nearly 200 Testify At Joint Finance Hearing In River Falls

"The most common theme of the day was Evers' proposal to expand the Medicaid program known as BadgerCare." "These folks are one illness away from bankruptcy and I would ask that the Legislature accept the federal dollars to expand BadgerCare through the Affordable Care Act," said Don Dunphy, Citizen Action Co-op member. "It would mean that 80,000 more Wisconsinites would be able to afford health insurance."

Nearly 200 people testified at the Joint Finance Committee hearing Monday at UW-River Falls. Requests included an expansion of the state's Medicaid program and increased special education funding for public schools.

Healthcare on the March

This week progressive Democrats in Congress introduced Medicare For All with an impressive 100+ co-sponsors. We talk about why the bill matters. Turning to Wisconsin, we look at the official announcement by Governor Tony Evers that he will include BadgerCare Expansion in his first state budget. Citizen Action members held news conferences in Appleton and Wausau this week and hosted 11 watch parties during Thursday night's State Budget Address. Robert Kraig educates us on the devastating potential impact of a big push by hospital lobbyists for a "private option" insurance scheme to replace BadgerCare Expansion. We review newly announced state budget provisions, including nonpartisan redistricting, freezing voucher and charter schools, and in-state tuition rates for all — regardless of immigration status. We close the show by exposing a shameful GOP effort to blackball Nicole Safar from serving in the Department of Health and Human Services. Medicaid Expansion to Cost Wisconsinites $600 Million Per Year - Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty

"Poll after poll has shown that Wisconsinites strongly support Medicaid Expansion because they want more people to have access to quality affordable health care. The new report which seeks to discredit Medicaid Expansion is not credible, as it comes from highly ideological sources which are funded by far right billionaires who adamantly oppose increasing access to affordable health care. The report is so biased that it argues that people who seek emergency care because they have insurance are increasing cost, failing to take into account the cost of untreated illnesses and injuries. The authors of this highly slanted report seem to actually believe that giving Wisconsinites better access to affordable health care is a bad thing, and that leaving patients without care should be the goal of state policy. Contrary to the claims in this biased report, there is a well established consensus of national research showing that Medicaid Expansion increases access to health care for working people struggling to get ahead while also reducing the cost of private health insurance. One recent study from credible medical experts found that private health insurance premiums are 11% lower in states that expand Medicaid." - Robert Kraig, Citizen Action WI

Josh Zepnick faces challenge from fellow Democrat in primary after being accused of sexual misconduct

"As a woman, that is something that is offensive to me — that he tries to sweep it under the rug... It's actually something that affects women for their entire life — it doesn’t just go away. It's offensive that his immediate response was to blame it on the alcohol. It's even more offensive that after admitting the incidents did happen and apologizing, he'd challenge the women's credibility. And it's outrageous that he would suggest there's some type of 5-second rule to sexual assault." - Marisabel Cabrera, Citizen Action endorsed candidate for State Assembly, District 9. Help get out the vote for Marisabel Cabrera Saturday, 9:30am, AFT Local 212, 739 W. Juneau Ave.

Milwaukee Rep. Josh Zepnick is looking for redemption Tuesday when voters will decide whether Zepnick should return to the state Assembly after he was accused of kissing two female colleagues against their will.

Separated Families cookout

"The reason we're doing this is to call attention to the fact that there's still families that haven't been reunited with the new immigration policy, even though there have been two deadlines that the President said he would meet. And this is really concerning that in America, that we would actually traumatize children and families on purpose, and not do the right thing and reunite them," said Citizen Action North Central Co-op organizer Joel Lewis.

A family cookout was held in Sunny Vale Park in Wausau to draw attention to the continued separation of families at the U.S border.
