We are deeply saddened by the horrific events that happened Sunday in Ontario, Canada. 20-year-old Nathaniel Veltman deliberately struck down a Muslim family of five, killing four of them. Our condolences go out to the victims who were senselessly brutalized for their faith and beliefs. To the Muslim community here in Nassau County and abroad, we stand with you. And to the 9-year-old who survived this vicious attack, our hearts and thoughts are with you and your recovery. #terrorism #Islamophobia

The Nassau County Office of Asian American Affairs reaffirms that we are against all forms of discrimination. We are gravely concerned about the violent, harassing attacks against the two Sikh teenagers in Huntington. We assure you that the police have been contacted and are looking into this matter. There is no place for hate here in Nassau.

OAAA was honored to attend Children of Adam’s “Annual Appreciation Breakfast” where volunteers serve free weekly breakfast for the community. The organization, led by Mufti Mohammad Farhan, promotes youth development initiatives and humanitarian assistance to the food insecure, orphans, and those in need of shelter.

Thank you to all the amazing and selfless volunteers for helping those in their greatest time of need.

#MemorialDay is an annual reminder that freedom is never free.

Today we remember the heroes who gave their lives in defense and service to our country.

May we honor their sacrifices by guarding and cherishing the liberties they died protecting.

We are honored to award Nassau County resident Wu Yiping a County citation for his tireless efforts for the Asian American community. He has most recently created a community safety patrol to provide security to the residents of Flushing. His next step is expanding to Nassau.

To get involved in these efforts, visit https://aac-nyc.org/ for more information. Happy AAPI Heritage Month!

Congratulations to Jericho HS senior Catherine Kim on taking the top prize at the world's largest high school science competition! I look forward to seeing the positive impact Catherine and Nassau's other Regeneron finalists make on the world through scientific innovation. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran

As a young child, Catherine Kim visited science museums so much she considered them her second home. She didn't see math or science simply as subjects to be taught in school but rather as ways into ex

Today I am proposing the Homeowner Assistance Plan, a direct cash payment to roughly 300,000 households in Nassau County. Having achieved a budget surplus and with American Rescue Act funding on its way to the County, we must deliver relief for middle-class families.

The program I'm proposing would provide cash relief to roughly 3 of every 4 homeowners in Nassau. I am calling on the County Legislature to support this effort and will work with my Economic Advisory Council to get it done.

Entertainment media and culture have a powerful impact upon society and race relations. These entities have the capability of influencing attitudes and behaviors. To that end, I want to highlight Minari,a current movie about a Korean-American family that settles down and creates roots in the American south a few decades ago. The family members are all heart-warming and the film has already won some awards. I cried at certain points with the husband and wife conflicts and the young son and daughter and their grandmother who arrives from Korea to live with them. Minari is endearing simultaneously in its simplicity and complexity of family life. The Academy Awards will be aired in April. Minari is nominated for numerous awards.I am hoping that the film industry honors this movie with at least one Oscar, and in doing so, shines light on Asian culture, while raising awareness, compassion and inclusivity at the same time. I am also hoping that, in light of recent events, Hollywood sees fit to create more Asian-American offerings in cinema and on television.
sorry for the error in the below post... i took a 91 year old.
The Office of Asian American Affairs is doing a great job in notifying the community members and non-profit organizations of the various services available to citizens and keeping the community updated about COVID testing and vaccine availability as well. Today, I took a 93-year-old Indian American lady to 'Yes We Can' Community Center for vaccination as arranged by your office. The site had an efficient system in place with friendly staff/volunteers. Within 15 minutes, she was able to get the vaccine. Thank you. Keep up the good work!
Thank You for your help in restoring electricity
Our community of Long Island looks forward to summer time celebrations and family gatherings. Although these events have been put on hold this year that doesn't mean we cannot come together in a safe environment while social distancing. Enjoy a memorable night out while watching a film in the comfort and safety of your own vehicle. We invite our local community members for our first Safe & Sound Mobile Theater Bollywood film experience of 2020 (we welcome non South Asians too). We will be featuring the classic Bollywood film K3G. The feature will include subtitles for non-hindi speaking guests. For some of you this will create new memories or immerse in a new cultural experience, and for others it will bring back old nostalgic times. Purchase limited tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bollywood-on-broadway-k3g-a-safe-sound-drive-in-experience-tickets-109207835576?ref=eios Our friends from @djusaevents, DJ's Sharad & Juicy from will be on the set with support from DJ Ash G, DJ Arjun and event hosts Marco Glorious & Maximillian for our pre-show festivities at 8pm. We encourage our guests to support the local restaurants at the Broadway commons including Burger Village and Blaze Pizza. We encourage guests to arrive early, eat dinner before the show, and bring loads of snacks for the show. We encourage you to bring blankets , pillows and anything that will allow you to feel comfortable and at home during this Safe & Sound Mobile Theater Experience. Bollywood films are 3+ hours so ensure to use the restroom before arrival. We will have porta-potties onsite for emergency use. Support provided by DJUSA Events, Patel Brothers, and Ish Events.
As Laura said, Elmont is one of the COVID-19 hard hit areas. There is a newly opened test site at Elmont. They desperately needs some PPE for the patients. Here comes our hero in a rain, brought the ppe they needed. Thank you New Hyde Park Chinese Association !
