What an honor to join the Levy Lakeside sixth graders for their annual sandwich-a-thon! Together, the students, faculty and volunteers made over 1,800 sandwiches. The sandwiches and other snacks were donated to The River Fund - a poverty-focused organization that assists individuals and families facing food insecurity.

My last official act as a Nassau County Legislator was delayed due to scheduling issues. But yesterday, I had the honor and privilege of recognizing Soo Becchina for her tireless efforts helping the Nassau County community, as well as the Levy Lakeside Elementary students.

It was fun to surprise Ms. Becchina during her Student Council session!

Happy to donate winter coats from our coat drive to Destiny House Christian Center, Inc.

These coats were distributed to community members and church families in need. One member who was recently laid off and is between jobs shared how desperately she needed a coat for herself and her daughter. Others impacted by the government shutdown also received coats—making this donation, especially timely.

As Dr. Pepper Martin shared:

“Thank you for being a blessing; it is always appreciated.”

Special thanks to Dr. Martin and Frances Dent, head of the Pastoral Care Team, for helping distribute the coats and care for those in need.

So grateful to learn that the Lt. Joseph Banish Mental Health Bill is now the law of the land in New York! This transformative legislation will make it easier for police and first responders to secure mental health resources and protect their privacy as they do so – all of which will help ensure that the people who serve and protect us can always access the care they deserve without stigma or barriers. Thank you to Kathy Hochul for signing the bill into law; PBA President Tommy Shevlin for your courageous and unwavering advocacy for mental health care; and former Assemblywoman L.
