Reminder!

As the weather gets nicer (fingers crossed), we know more Mineral residents will be working on their property—clearing brush, pruning trees, and cleaning up yards. If you plan to burn natural vegetation as part of your spring clean-up, 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁!

𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀 are currently being issued and are valid through 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟯𝟬. These permits are for burning natural vegetation only—𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿, 𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱.

Behind every helicopter landing, emergency response, and late-night callout are local volunteers willing to step up when their community needs them most. 🚁

Recently, LCFD9 responded alongside LCFD4 (Morton) to assist with a serious injury near Elbe requiring emergency air transport.

We’re grateful for the teamwork, training, and mutual aid partnerships that help make responses like this possible.

🚨 LCFD9 Monthly Update 🚨

It’s been another busy month for Lewis County Fire District #9 – Mineral Fire & Rescue.

Recently, with the assistance of LCFD4 - Lewis County Fire District #4 (Morton), crews responded to a serious injury near Elbe after a piece of equipment severely damaged an individual’s ankle. Due to concerns about blood loss and the need for immediate surgical care, Life Flight was requested to transport the patient as quickly as possible. The helicopter landed safely in the lot behind the old Mineral School. Thank you to all responding agencies for the teamwork and coordinated response.

In April, LCFD9 responded to:
🔥 3 fire calls
🚑 3 first aid/emergency medical calls

We’re also proud to share that two of our volunteers successfully passed the Washington State EMS certification process! 👏

Congratulations to:
🩺 Emily Hunt
🩺 Brian West

They’ll now continue through several months of rigorous hands-on training before officially serving our community as EMS providers. We’re incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work they’ve already shown.

This month we also began distributing FREE smoke alarms to Mineral area families during the community lunch event. Fire prevention and early detection save lives, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to help keep our community safer.

And finally — we had a wonderful time participating in this year’s Mineral Lake Fishing Derby! 🎣 It was great connecting with community members, meeting visitors, and sharing a little about what we do here at LCFD9. A special thank you as well to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources for joining in on the fun and helping promote wildfire awareness and prevention.

🚒 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 – Camper Fire (Mineral Hill Rd)
Thursday, April 9

On Thursday afternoon, crews from LCFD9 - Mineral Fire & Rescue responded to a reported camper fire off Mineral Hill Road.

With mutual aid assistance from LCFD4 - Lewis County Fire District #4, firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire and protect nearby structures and surrounding property.

Outcome: Fire contained with no spread to adjacent structures.

Incidents like this serve as an important reminder of how quickly fire can spread—and the importance of working smoke alarms, defensible space, and having a plan in place.

💛 We’re grateful for the teamwork and quick response from all personnel involved.

⚠️ Weather Update from NWS Seattle ⚠️

Strong winds are expected later today into tonight, with possible blizzard conditions in the mountains. Now is the time to prepare.

✔️ Secure loose outdoor items
✔️ Stay indoors and away from windows during peak winds
✔️ If you must travel — slow down and carry a winter survival kit

Conditions can change quickly. Please check on neighbors, especially seniors or those who may need extra help.
