It made the USA #1... a country worth FIGHTING for.

Socialism means giving up big dreams, settling for less, relinquishing more control to the government, supplying every need to those too lazy or addicted to support themselves, and then proudly considering yourself "progressive". No... don't go there.

George Murray (rancher, oil dude, cattle operator and former football great from Tarleton) came in the house this morning and said, “Hey, Kent! I don’t wanna get my nice truck all muddy. Do you mind if I borrow something to take feed out there into the pasture for the cows this morning?”

I said, “George, of course not! Vehicles outside all have keys in them; just help yourself. “

There were some very good choices in the circular driveway: a Polaris Ranger, an F-250 pickup, a Ford Expedition already covered in mud and an antique Jaguar Mk 2, plus my favorite Rolls-Royce just back from the Detailer Shop.

About 15 minutes later, I began receiving pictures from a game camera, and was I ever surprised!

When he got back I was gonna slap him around a little bit but I remembered he works out every morning with 500- pound barbells.

So I thought better of it, and just simply thanked him for taking good care of the cows.

This explains Billy Bob Thornton sightings around town. He's working in Tarrant and Parker Counties making a new series for Taylor Sheridan. BBT is a great guy with more talent in his little toe than the average Hollywood star. He wrote, produced and starred in the Academy Award winning film Sling Blade and he's been here before... we brought him to a Film Festival in Fort Worth a few years ago and I've visited in his Beverly Hills home with our mutual buddy Kinky Friedman a few times. Let's be glad Texas is becoming a magnet for great filmmakers. As a member of the Governor's Commission on the Arts in Texas, all I can say is, "Welcome!" and "Let's keep up the great work!"

It's not how you start out;; it's where you end up.

In Berkshire, England there's a stately, ancient mansion, Ufton Park, the ancestral home of the Perkins family (apparently my direct lineage) who emigrated to the British Colonies in America well before the Revolutionary War due to religious persecution by the Church of England, according to Ancestry.com and other history sources.

They were Catholics being endlessly harassed for not attending the Official Church; the mansion was raided by Sheriffs looking for priests believed to be hiding within the confines of the Manor; and indeed, there were priests, who escaped through a tunnel system that took them several hundred yards underground from the manor to thick woods where they could hide until the raid was over. Catholic chalices, robes, paintings of the Pope, crosses, and prayer books were, however, confiscated and held as evidence. They were not jailed, but heavily fined and ostracized.

After years of oppression, the Perkins family fled to find religious freedom in the new world.

I think all the Catholic Perkins's have since died off and their offspring became Protestants... seems we sort of went from sprinklin' to dunkin'.

If my family hadn't left Great Britain, I might've had a pretty good life over there as Lord Kent of Berkshire; as it is, I'm just a commoner with a few cows and horses in a slightly smaller house in what was once north-eastern Mexico while my Perkins ancestors resided in England.

Oh well, I guess it could be worse.

Ufton Court is now a Grade 1 listed historical Manor House on 40 acres of land, currently in use as a wedding and event venue and home of the Ufton Court Educational Foundation, open for organized tours. School classes from around the world can explore the house and grounds and hear about its history from docents. The escape tunnels are still there!

I hope there remains a Perkins family room in there somewhere... I'd settle for a little efficiency apartment upstairs with a view of the forests; I may have to head that way in 2024 depending upon what happens over here in the Colonies.

It's destructive, environmentally disastrous and it wreaks economic harm to the hosts and all their neighbors. Nothing could be more foolish, shortsighted or selfish than letting a wind energy company use your land for a taxpayer subsidized fiasco called a wind turbine farm. Their monstrous, noisy, unsightly towers forever mark --- day and night --- territory owned by true idiots.

Are wind, solar, and batteries the magical solutions to all our energy needs? Or do they come with too high a price? Mark Mills, Senior Fellow at the Manhatt...
