To my family, friends, and fellow citizens of Minneapolis:

I want to begin by acknowledging the unprecedented challenges our students, families, and educators are facing, but also the strength and deep care that our community is bringing to this moment. In times like these, steady leadership and focus matters. This reality is very much on my mind as I share the following announcement with you.

Students First. Always.

After thoughtful consideration, I am announcing my decision to run for reelection as an at-large member of the School Board, and I am grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me over the past term.

I’ve spent my time in office focused on one thing: doing the work responsibly, with our students and the broader community at the center of every decision. That hasn’t always been easy, but it has always been worth it.

Serving this community has been both an honor and a responsibility I have never taken lightly. Over the past term, we have navigated real challenges and worked together to make difficult decisions in order to strengthen the systems our students, families, and educators rely on every day.

Throughout this work, I’ve made it a priority to listen. Listen to our students, families, staff, and community members, and then to collaborate with my fellow board colleagues, as good governance requires. I’ve also remained open to feedback, different perspectives, and opportunities to learn.

Those moments, especially the difficult ones, reinforced what I’ve always believed: leadership isn’t about titles or attention; it’s about consistency, accountability, and showing up.

Four years ago, I ran as a teacher advocating for our students and educators, and that commitment continues to shape how I approach this role today: listening first, understanding how decisions affect real classrooms and real lives, and keeping students at the center even when the work is complex.

I’m running again because there is still important work ahead. Work that requires experience, steady judgment, and the ability to build and sustain momentum rather than start over. At a time when stability and consistency matter more than ever, I believe thoughtful, experienced leadership helps ensure progress continues without losing sight of who we serve.

I care deeply about where we’re headed, and I remain committed to leading with transparency, collaboration, and respect.

I would be honored to earn your support as we continue this work together on the Minneapolis Public Schools’ Board of Education.

Thank you.

Congratulations MPS & MFE!

We are pleased to announce that MPS has reached a tentative contract agreement with the Minneapolis Federation of Educators (MFE). We believe this agreement honors the requests and needs of our staff while balancing the fiscal realities our district is facing.

MFE has shared that because we have reached a tentative agreement, they will not strike. Learn more: bit.ly/mfe2025

As Chair of the Minneapolis Public Schools Board, I want to take a moment to speak directly to our educators, families, and community. Understandably, many people across Minneapolis are feeling uneasy right now. Negotiations can feel uncertain, and uncertainty can create worry. But I want everyone to hear this clearly: major progress is happening. We are getting close to an agreement, and I am optimistic that we will reach settlement and avoid a strike.

At the heart of these discussions is something we all share — a deep belief in our students, in the people who teach and support them, and in the strength of our schools as the heart of this city. That shared belief is what keeps us moving forward together. We have made so much progress over the last few years— increasing enrollment, retaining educators, and expanding opportunities for adult learners across Minneapolis. Together, we’ve built momentum and a shared vision of making MPS a “Destination District.” That’s not just a phrase; it captures who we are and where we’re going — a district that people want to join and a community people are proud to call home. It’s something we all believe in.

Let me be clear, this School Board is deeply engaged in all aspects of this process. And I have hope because many of us have taught in classrooms, served as union members, and raised children in this district. We understand these challenges because we’ve lived them. And while our role in negotiations happens largely behind the scenes — as good governance requires — we are fully committed to a fair, responsible outcome that keeps students at the center.

I also want to encourage our community to visit the official Minneapolis Public Schools website and social-media channels for the most accurate and up-to-date information about our current proposals. It’s clear, we share far more common ground than what is often reflected in public discussions.

So at this moment, wherever you are, I simply want to say this: take a breath with us. Trust that progress is real. Join me in optimism at this time.

We are on the path to resolution. The best days for Minneapolis Public Schools — and for this city — are still ahead.
