Abaabul Abaabul is a Somali-American-led, community-powered movement advancing collective organizing, civic engagement, and political power for our communities.

On this sacred day of Eid, as Muslims across the world gather in prayer, gratitude, and celebration, many in our own community are carrying a deep sense of heartbreak and abandonment.

In Minnesota, home to the largest Somali populations in North America, we continue to witness the normalization of rhetoric, policies, and political narratives that dehumanize our communities, especially from Washington, D.C.

And yet, you would think leaders like Governor Tim Walz, Tim Walz Amy Klobuchar would take a moment to share this day with us. No call. No message. No acknowledgment. On one of the holiest days of the year, the community that turned out for them was invisible to them. That silence is not neutral. It is a choice. And our community feels it.

Eid is a reminder of dignity. Of sacrifice. Of justice. Of standing firm in truth even when it is unpopular.

Abaabul was unveiled last night, and the room felt what many of us have known in our hearts for a long time: our community is not waiting to be defined, defended, or discovered by others. We are ready to organize ourselves.

Abaabul is a declaration that our voices matter.
A declaration that our dignity is not negotiable.
A declaration that our future must be shaped with us, not for us.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who came, listened, spoke, encouraged, and stood with us. To our speakers, volunteers, supporters, and everyone who believed in this beginning: thank you.

From here on, we organize.
From here on, we build.
From here on, we rise together.

Something is moving among our people. You can feel it in the conversations after Jumu'ah prayers and in coffee shops. You can hear it in the way our mothers are speaking at home. You can see it in our young people, who are no longer asking permission to lead. Something has shifted, and once a community begins to move like this, it does not move backward.

Our parents crossed oceans so we could stand on this ground. Our elders rebuilt entire lives in a country that did not always make room for them. Our children are watching to see what we will build for them. Abaabul is the way. It is the means through which we step fully into our own political voice — together, organized, and unapologetic.

Walaalo, bring the hopes you have been afraid to say out loud.

We will not be spoken for. We will not be sidelined. We will rise—together.

For too long, Somali Americans have faced misrepresentation, political targeting, and exclusion from decisions that shape our lives. But something is changing.

We are organizing. We are building. We are stepping into our power.

This is Abaabul. This is Collective Organizing. It is a call to action. A commitment that our voices will be heard, our families protected, and our future shaped by us.
