As a graduate of Chisholm High School, it was a great honor to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new school building today. Chisholm schools have provided a great education to students for over one hundred years and that tradition of excellence will continue in their new building for another generation.

Today I was proud to join Congressman Pete Stauber, members of the Iron Range delegation, and area mayors and commissioners to stand against the governor’s ridiculous, unlawful executive order on mining in Northern Minnesota.

Minnesotans deserve facts, not fear- and that’s exactly what this Executive Order is.
Mining in Minnesota requires compliance to some of the strictest water quality, financial assurance, and reclamation requirements in the country.

Rather than let Minnesota lead, Governor Walz is shutting down economic opportunity for communities that have supported mining for generations.

While other states and countries are in a race to develop copper, nickel, cobalt, and platinum-group metals, Governor Walz is locking up Minnesota’s resources while exporting those jobs and those minerals out of state and overseas. That is not environmental stewardship, it is economic su***de.

I enjoyed participating in the Natural Resources Research Institute ribbon cutting for the DRI simulator project this morning. The facility is world class and will help keep Minnesota mining competitive for generations.

The NorthMet Project continues to bring hope to the Iron Range for the future of mining in our state. The announcement today brings us one step closer to good-paying jobs, economic opportunity, and a stronger domestic supply of the critical minerals our country desperately needs. These updates show that responsible mining and environmental protections can work together. I encourage state and federal regulators to keep this process moving efficiently so Iron Range families can finally see the benefits of this long-awaited project.
