EMERGENCY STATEMENT FROM MN50501:
Today, federal agents arrested local activists Nekima Levy Armstrong, Chauntyll Allen, and Monique Cullars Doty, while promising “more to come”. Minnesota 50501 strongly with all our heart condemns this drastic escalation.

Everyone in this nation has a right to protest and assembly. The protest at City Church was a legal and protected expression of anger towards a pastor who has sold out his own community to armed federal agents. But let’s be clear - this is not about “protecting worshippers”. If it was, I.C.E. would not be harassing our local churches. This move is about suppressing dissent. It is about punishing leaders for daring to speak up for their communities and against fascism. And it is about getting revenge for Trump’s humiliation in 2020, when he failed to stop the Twin Cities from rising up against police brutality.

At the Vatican, I presented Pope Leo XIV with a Senate resolution honoring the victims and survivors of the mass shooting at the Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis.

We pray for those we lost, the recovering survivors, and the entire Annunciation community.
