Thank you to everyone who attended my first Town Hall meeting last night. We had a great turnout, strong participation, and a lot of thoughtful discussion.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to Rudy Chavez with Missouri Works Initiative, Julie Pratt with Centerstone, and Tameka Bryant and Robert Ferrante with Independence Center for taking the time to share information about their organizations, the services they provide, and their plans for our community.

I also want to thank City Manager Troy Anderson and Councilmembers Jackie Dorman and Bryce Stewart for joining the conversation about supporting our small businesses, city cleanup efforts, and upcoming community cleanups.

We had many excellent questions, great discussions, and several suggestions for future topics and additional Q&A sessions. Unfortunately, we simply ran out of time to get to every question and idea. That’s a good problem to have, and it tells me how engaged our community is.

I was especially inspired by the interest shown in creating a Small Business Committee that will work with the City to develop ideas that support our local businesses and help streamline the process for new business startups. This is exactly the kind of collaboration I hoped these Town Hall meetings would inspire, and we will begin putting that committee together immediately.

I heard your feedback tonight, and we will continue to evolve these Town Hall meetings by adjusting the format to allow for even more citizen interaction. As promised, we will also schedule a dedicated community meeting to discuss the ideas and options for the Independence Center that were brought forward this evening.

I’m excited that last nights meeting resulted in immediate action items, not just discussion. Between moving forward with the Small Business Committee and planning the Independence Center community meeting, we’re already turning ideas into action. That’s exactly what these Town Hall meetings are meant to accomplish.

Thank you again to everyone who attended. It was inspiring to see so much engagement, collaboration, and genuine care for our city. Together is how we will move Independence forward.

Just a reminder that my first Town Hall meeting is tomorrow evening at 6:00 PM at the Mid-Continent Public Library Genealogy Center.

I’ll be posting the agenda tomorrow morning so you’ll know what we’ll be discussing.

I wanted to provide an update on what was discussed during tonights City Council Study Session.

Tonight, we passed a resolution directing the City Manager to bring forward a ballot initiative for the November 2026 General Election to provide dedicated funding for four of Independence’s historical sites. As I have said before, we remain committed to preserving our history, not selling it.

The proposed funding would support:
• Vaile Mansion
• Bingham-Waggoner Estate
• 1827 Log Cabin
• Truman Memorial Building

We also received updates on the GO Bond street and bridge projects, including construction progress and anticipated completion timelines, as well as an update on Phase 2 of the Truman Connected project.

Happy Fourth of July!

Today we celebrate 250 years of American independence and the freedoms that make our nation so special. It’s a day to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who came before us and to appreciate the opportunities we enjoy because of them.

It is an honor to serve as your Mayor, and I’m grateful every day to be part of a community that cares for one another and takes pride in making Independence a great place to call home.

As you celebrate with family, friends, and neighbors, I hope you enjoy a safe and memorable holiday. Let’s also take a moment to remember the brave men and women who have defended our freedoms throughout our nation’s history.
