It's Trailblazer Tuesday, and our first 2026 Come Out Mobile Trailblazer Honoree needs no introduction!
Jerry Ehlen is a visionary trailblazer whose impact on Mobile’s LGBTQ+ community can be felt across generations. After more than 30 years as the owner of B-Bob's, Jerry is retiring from a career defined by leadership, visibility, and an unwavering commitment to community.
Jerry opened B-Bob’s in West Mobile in 1992 before relocating it downtown in 2002, helping establish what would become the heart of Mobile’s LGBTQ+ nightlife and community life in the LoDa District. He later expanded that legacy with the opening of Flip Side Bar & Patio in July 2013 and Nxt Lvl Skybar in October 2022. Through these spaces, he created places where countless people found friendship, celebration, and belonging.
For decades, Jerry has been one of the driving forces behind LGBTQ+ culture in downtown Mobile. He championed Pride celebrations long before they were widely embraced, helped organize the now-infamous Pride parade that brought visibility and joy to the streets, and consistently advocated for a more welcoming city.
Known as a reliable and honest friend to many, Jerry has quietly supported countless individuals, organizations, and causes throughout the years. He’s also never one to pass up a chance to get into costume, whether for a themed event, community celebration, or his beloved annual turn as Mobile’s own Gay Santa.
Jerry’s legacy is not just the businesses he built, but the community he helped shape. Through his generosity, humor, and commitment to showing up, he helped create a Mobile where LGBTQ+ people could gather, celebrate, and feel at home.
Join us on September 12 as we honor Jerry and celebrate the people whose courage and leadership helped pave the way for our community.
