Friends of the Modesto Library teamed up with Friends of the Salida Library to cohost a luncheon in honor of some of our favorite people – library workers! And what better time to show our appreciation than during National Library Week. Libraries work because they do!

The Stanislaus Library Foundation recently honored Friends of the Modesto Library members Kathy Sniffen and Anna Pagonis-Pitts with Shining Star Awards for volunteerism. Kathy and Anna organized two Pop-Up Gift Shop events that generated $5,500 dollars for the Library. They brought together an energetic group of volunteers, gathered ideas and mapped a plan for success. Together they collected more than 350 one-of-a-kind items from 28 local artisans. Anna herself crafted over 100 of the pieces herself and her passion for art in the service of the community was a true inspiration for the endeavor. Congratulations to you both!

Celebrate your love for libraries by thanking a library worker this month! Library folks work hard. A short list of duties would require them to answer questions with knowledge and patience, research information, shelve and circulate books, develop & deliver programs, create community partnerships, and provide technological assistance. National Library Week is April 19 – 25 and National Library Worker Day falls on April 21. This is a perfect time to let library workers know just how grateful you are for their role in keeping our library vibrant, vital, and functioning.

We want YOU! There are lots of ways to get involved with Friends of the Modesto Library. Here are just a few urgent needs that YOU might be able to help with.

We’re looking for a person to act as lead volunteer to coordinate FOML’s participation in DoMo First Friday events. Ditto, a person to coordinate FOML presence at Modesto Farmers Market. We could also use a FOML Historian, a new position.

Do you enjoy photography? We need a photographer to attend FOML events and take photos. If any of these roles sound interesting to you, contact FOML co-president Ellen Burchett at [email protected]. She’d love to talk with you!
