Moderate to Elevated Fire Weather Risk Today - August 31st, 2026

The page feels like a broken record on fire danger, but that will be the story again today and likely for the next several days.

Forecast Discussion
Once again, very warm temperatures are expected across much of Missouri, likely topping out in the mid to upper 90's for much of the Show Me State, and with dewpoints in the low to mid 60's being expected, that will lead to decent confidence in seeing lower relative humidity values, but not overly in agreement with the weather models/our fire weather models.

While the potential for low relative humidity is possible, especially into the southwest region of Missouri, extending into Central Missouri, it will be a bit higher than modeled, likely remaining above 20%, which will not be as extreme, but certainly could still create some moderate to elevated fire weather conditions.

Winds will continue to be rather light, coming from the south/southwest, so while wind-driven fire risk will be light, it cannot be ruled out that the wind will influence the fire to burn in a northward direction.

Fuels will be receptive to fire, and fires will have the potential to get out of control and have a moderate rate of spread; however, driving factors for rapid rate of spread look to be limited for this forecast period.

Show Me Fire continues to urge Missouri residents to use caution to prevent outdoor fires.

🄵 Take the heat seriously. Unseasonably hot temperatures are expected this entire week with highs near 100 degrees and heat index values in the triple digits. The abundant sunshine and warm nighttime lows will create a prolonged period of dangerous heat through at least Friday. Drink plenty of water and head inside promptly to cool down if you start feeling overheated.
