The application window for the Monroe Downtown Development Authority’s Building Improvement Grant (BIG) Program is NOW OPEN!

The BIG Program provides reimbursement-based grant funding to encourage investment in Downtown Monroe, helping eligible property owners and tenants make improvements that enhance and preserve our downtown buildings.

📅 Application Window: September 1 – November 1, 2026

Funding can support eligible projects focused on building rehabilitation, façade improvements and certain interior improvements. Grant funds are available until fully awarded for the fiscal year.

Exploring Downtown 🌍✨

As part of Monroe's Sister City exchange program with Hofu, Japan, students spent the day walking Downtown Monroe alongside Mayor Robert E. Clark.

Their visit included a stroll along the River Raisin, lunch at a local restaurant (Misty’s Plant Based Foods) , and time discovering the unique shops and charm that make Downtown such a special place. Opportunities like these give students a chance to experience a new culture firsthand. Each stop offered a glimpse into the history and character of our community.

The City of Monroe and Hofu, Japan officially became Sister Cities in 1993.
