Did you know... Wisconsin is in an educator workforce crisis. According to the Wisconsin DPI, nearly 4 in 10 first-year teachers leave the state or profession entirely within six years. Statewide, districts are facing shortages, turnover, and a pipeline that isn't keeping up with the need.

Now add this: Monroe teachers have watched colleagues receive non-renewal notices. They're being asked to do more with less, larger classes, fewer support staff, and compressed schedules. And yet, they're still here. Still teaching. Still showing up for our kids. ❤

If you see a Monroe educator this week, tell them what they mean to you. Write a note. Send a meal. Send an email to the district office. Let them know Monroe sees them and appreciates them.

Shouting out a great big THANK YOU to the school nurses in Monroe! Happy National School Nurse Day to the ones who handle stomach aches, sprained ankles, mystery rashes, and 27 “I think I have a fever” visits before lunch! ❤️

Today is National School Nurse Day! 🩺

We extend our sincere gratitude to our school nurses for their commitment to student wellness, health education, and compassionate care. Thank you for being an essential part of our school community. ❤️

It’s been a few weeks since the referendum, and we’ve taken a bit of time to step back and reflect.

First and foremost, thank you.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, asked questions, had conversations, volunteered, and supported this effort in any way. The level of care for this community was clear every step of the way.

In the weeks since the vote, we’ve started to see the real impacts take shape. Staff positions have been lost, and students are experiencing changes in their schools. These are difficult realities, and they matter.

While this outcome has been hard, it also reinforced something important: the challenges facing our schools go beyond Monroe. They’re part of a larger conversation about how public education is funded and supported.

We still believe in our schools, our students, and this community, and we’re not done caring about where we go from here, and we know many of you aren’t either.

This isn’t the outcome many hoped for. Throughout this process, we saw many in the Monroe community take the time to engage, ask questions, and better understand what’s at stake for our schools. We’re grateful for that.

Our focus now is on navigating what comes next together. This is a challenging moment, but our commitment to Monroe’s students, staff, and families remains as we support one another through what’s ahead.

How did the Monroe School District go from the bottom 10% to the top 15% in just a few years? We asked Jim Curran, president of the Monroe School Board, to break it down for us.

This is what return on investment in our schools looks like and why it’s worth continuing.
