There have been a lot of comments on the recent Wingharts incident and we would like to add our two cents. Our first concern is about the shady business practices of the owner. While it is not illegal to switch venues between your two businesses, it is illegal to be over the occupancy level of your establishment and it is also illegal to "risk a catastrophe". Dictionary. com provides the meaning of catastrophe, and we would agree that they're description of a catastrophe fits what happened at Wingharts. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/catastrophe?s=t
Is there no way that the owner of Wingharts can be charged with this? or with being over the occupancy limit? If so, is he being charged? If not, why not?
With all the morally reprehensible events surrounding Monroeville lately, we feel it is of the utmost importance to take action to the fullest extent of the law. We cannot ignore the situation or be lax in our response, therefore allowing other people to feel it is permissible to perform deviant behavior in our community. Finger pointing and excuses are not enough to deter this type of activity from occurring again.
If somebody in Monroeville violates the law, charge them! If you need to monitor social media, then do it! If the occupancy of a building is in question, then have a prepared response to handle the situation! Take proactive steps to ensure the safety of your community and its property. Let everybody know that breaking our laws and disturbing our community will not be tolerated. The days of reactive responses are over. We can no longer sit back comfortably and hope that bad things do not happen here. They are happening, we need to be prepared and follow through with severe penalties for those that break the law in Monroeville!
