As many of you know, in June I declared my candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Governor. It was an honor to serve Montclair for 8 years as a council person and 4 years as Mayor and I am proud of what my colleagues and I accomplished together - rent control, infrastructure improvements, environmental projects and supporting small businesses coming out of COVID to mention just a few. And we did that while achieving a AAA bond rating allowing us to reduce debt and invest for our future.

This weekend Sister to Sister Montclair hosted a fantastic event centering around empowering our younger women. This organization continues to encourage strength through mentorships and many programs and events, much like this one. This is such a special and important service that I am so grateful we have right here in our town.

This weekend Montclair raised its rainbow flag in honor of Pride Month.The flag is an important symbol showing Montclair's continued commitment to being a place that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community year round.

June is Pride Month. I am thrilled to have participated in Jersey Pride in Asbury Park. It was a joyous celebration of New Jersey's rich diversity and also an act of strength in the face of extremist efforts to strip away fundamental liberties and personal freedoms. We are stronger when we stand together.

I was thrilled to join the New Jersey School of Conservation for their 75th Anniversary Celebration today. I had the opportunity to speak to the importance of environmental education and conservation. Robust programs like those at the New Jersey School of Conservation give our educators and next generation of leaders the tools and knowledge they need to lead the fight to protect our environment, public health and stop climate change.

On Friday I joined the team at Dan & Day's for the opening of their new location in Upper Montclair! It's so great to see Montclair businesses reach new heights. Congratulations to the team! Wishing you much success in the new spot!

A huge shout out to the educators and kids, and of course, the DPW, who helped out the Earth today by coming together and planting a tree! We had a lot of fun giving back to our planet, and I am excited to see the tree flourish in the years to come.

In continuing our celebration of Earth and the environment, Montclair will be hosting Earth Fest this coming Sunday from 12PM to 4PM on South Park Street (between Bloomfield Ave and Church Street).

Earth Fest's goal is promote awareness and action towards protecting our planet's natural resources, ecosystems, and biodiversity. Learn about living a more eco-friendly lifestyle, reducing your carbon footprint, and help advocate for policies that will work to protect our environment from further harm.

The Office of Sustainability is pleased to announce Montclair's Earth Fest 2024. Scheduled for Sunday, April 28th, 2024, from 12:00 PM. to 4:00 PM. at South Street Park between Bloomfield Ave. and Church St.

Donald M. Payne Jr. exemplified what it means to be a public servant. Congressman Payne was a reliable governing partner and a true friend. He was always ready and willing to advocate for the needs of the communities he represented - including Montclair. On issues ranging from reproductive freedom, to protecting voting rights and delivering needed federal resources for critical infrastructure in our region, Congressman Payne delivered time and again. His passing leaves a void in our state, our party and all who knew him. He will be sorely missed.

Yesterday was a fantastic Earth Day celebration at Nishuane Park and I had the pleasure of being able to speak about the importance of our environment. Looking forward to coming back on Friday to help the kids plant a tree!
