Meet Tyler. 🚒😁

Born and raised right here in Montclair, Tyler has been serving this community as a firefighter for 5 years — and if you ask him, giving back to the town that raised him is exactly what the job is all about.

“Most people think we just put out fires. We have other responsibilities too.”

When he’s not suiting up, Tyler is… a stand-up comedian. 🎤 Yep. Montclair’s Bravest by day, making people laugh by night.

Funny. Responsible. Scholar.

We couldn’t be more proud to have Tyler on our team. Stay tuned — there are 69 more where he came from. 🚒❤️

Earlier today, Montclair Fire Department responded to a vehicle that struck a local storefront, compromising the structural integrity of the wall. 🚒
Our crews worked quickly on scene to assess the structure and ensure the safety of everyone in the area. A reminder that our firefighters are trained to handle far more than fires — from structural assessments to technical rescues, we are ready for whatever this community needs.
A big thank you to our partners at for their presence and professionalism on scene today. Moments like these are a reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together. 💪
No serious injuries were reported. The scene has been cleared.

3️⃣ Have a home escape plan — and practice it with your family
4️⃣ Keep a fire extinguisher in your kitchen and know how to use it
5️⃣ Never leave candles burning in an unoccupied room
Your safety is our priority — 365 days a year. 🚒❤️

Yesterday we had the opportunity to train with , , and . PSE&G’s Utility Emergency Preparedness team conducted a gas emergency drill on Oak Pl. These drills are critical to ensuring we are fully prepared for real-world emergencies. Gas-related incidents present unique hazards that require rapid decision-making, strong communication, and seamless coordination between agencies.

By training side-by-side with PSE&G personnel, as well as police and EMS, we strengthen our ability to:
🔥 Quickly identify and control hazards
🚓 Coordinate scene safety and perimeter control
🚑 Provide immediate medical support when needed
🤝 Operate as one unified team during high-risk incidents

Opportunities like this allow us to build relationships, refine our tactics, and ensure that when an emergency happens, we are ready to respond together—efficiently and effectively.

We thank all participating agencies for their professionalism and commitment to keeping our community safe.

Tuesday’s Tip

Keep bedroom doors closed at night.

A closed door can help slow the spread of heat, smoke, and toxic gases during a fire, giving you and your family more time to escape.

It’s a simple habit that can make a real difference.

Before bed tonight:
Close bedroom doors
Make sure exits are clear
Know two ways out

Small safety habits save lives.

Montclair Fire Department Training Update 🚒

This past week, Montclair Fire Department members had the opportunity to train at Mountainside Hospital, focusing on MRI safety and fire department operations in medical environments.

MRI suites present unique challenges due to the presence of powerful magnetic fields that can turn everyday equipment into serious hazards.

Training like this ensures our crews are prepared for all types of emergencies, including those in highly specialized environments like healthcare facilities.

We’d like to thank the staff at Mountainside Hospital for their partnership and commitment to safety. Working together strengthens our ability to protect patients, staff, and our community.

🚒 Flashback Friday 🚒

Taking it back to the 1970s — when helmets were a little different, gear was a little heavier, and the commitment to training was just as strong as it is today.

This photo captures a group of Montclair firefighters during what looks like a hands-on training evolution. Decades ago, just like now, our members drilled hard to sharpen their skills, build teamwork, and prepare for whatever emergency came next. That tradition of training — generation after generation — is what keeps our community safe.

And yes… before anyone asks… it appears we successfully rescued the scarecrow. 🌾👨‍🚒 We’re happy to report he made a full recovery and returned to active duty guarding the cornfield.

Do you recognize any of these firefighters? 👀
