Our mission is to protect the public welfare of the citizens of the State of Alabama through oversight and regulation of certified public accountants (CPAs) and toward maintaining the highest standards of proficiency in the profession.

On Friday, May 1, 2026, the Board held an in-office meeting where several important matters were addressed.

The Board reviewed four license reinstatement requests, received updates on recent Board activities, and voted to approve rule changes aimed at creating a new pathway to licensure. The new pathway will include licensure for passing the CPA Exam with a bachelor’s degree and two years of experience. Please visit the board website for the detailed rule changes.

These ongoing efforts reflect the Board’s commitment to maintaining high standards while continuing to evolve and support the future of the profession.

With the February 28, 2026 deadline approaching — and late fees set to increase after that date — please be aware of an important change from the United States Postal Service (USPS).

📬 Starting in 2026:
To receive a same-day postmark, mail must be presented in person at a post office counter.
Mail dropped in a mailbox or other location may not receive a postmark reflecting the actual date of deposit — which could cause your registration to be considered untimely filed.

✔️ The Board considers a registration timely if it:
• Is placed with USPS
• Bears a USPS postmark dated on or before the filing deadline

📅 The 3-month grace period runs October 1 – December 31.
Submissions not properly postmarked by the deadline will be returned for the appropriate late penalty.
