This morning, our community woke up to the heartbreaking news of a fire at the Coldenham Fire Department.

On behalf of the Town of Montgomery, I want to extend our thoughts and unwavering support to the dedicated volunteers of the Coldenham Fire Department. A firehouse is much more than a building—it is a place where neighbors answer the call to serve, where countless hours are spent training, and where the commitment to protecting our community begins.

While the damage to the station is deeply saddening, the strength, resilience, and spirit of the men and women of Coldenham cannot be diminished. Time and again, they have been there for our residents during their greatest times of need. Now, it is our turn to stand with them.

We are grateful that no injuries have been reported and have every confidence that this department will emerge from this challenge stronger than ever. The Town stands ready to support the Coldenham Fire Department as they recover and continue their mission of serving our community.

Please join me in keeping the members of the Coldenham Fire Department in your thoughts and showing them the same compassion and support they have shown all of us over the years.

Attention Town of Montgomery Residents. Over the July 4th Weekend there were found ten illegal, freely-floating sky lanterns along Beamer Road. Residents must be aware that releasing these lanterns untethered constitutes an unattended fire hazard under New York State Fire Code. They pose serious threats to agriculture, wildlife as well as residential and commercial properties. Town residents are warned to not release these balloon threats for any purpose whatsoever. Sky lanterns are fully banned in 29 states and the prohibition is backed by the National Fire Association.

Residents are also reminded that only ground-based fireworks are legal in NY State unless authorized for professional fireworks companies to conduct aerial displays. There can be no use of projectiles, firecrackers, cherry bombs, M-80’s or similar fireworks. Only fountains, sparklers with bamboo handles, party poppers, snappers and comparable products are legal.

All residents are cautioned to not use illegal fireworks or floating sky lanterns for any purpose. The safety of our entire community is paramount.

It was my pleasure to join Goshen Supervisor Joe Betro, Sheriff Arteta, Goshen Chief Post and fellow officer and Goshen Town Clerk Mary Riso at the new location of the Diplomat Cafe' & Bakery. The food was delicious.
