These are on the side of the Knapp house. The one on the left says “Sommers” or “Summers” which I am told was one of the builders of the house. The one on the right - “HMPM” I am told are initials of members of the Moore family, owners of the house and friends of George Washington. Either way - these are 250 + years old! If anyone else knows anything about these, please comment.

VOTE!!!!! This is Florence Knapp (1873 - 1988) on her 100th birthday. A former school teacher, never married, she lived to be 114 years old, and obtained TWO Guiness World Records (one for oldest person in the world and another for living in the same home the longest - she still holds the second title). She was still an active voter in all elections, both local and national, for several more years after this photo was taken. Why was voting so important to her? In 1919, she was a suffragette, marching in Philadelphia with many, many other women carrying "Votes for Women!" signs. In Pennsylvania, and quite a few other states, women were not permitted to vote until after the 19th Amendment was ratified in August 1920. So, as you go into the voting booth today, say a little "thank you" to all those women who made it possible!

Hello everyone. Here are a couple of dates to mark on your calendars. The MTHS annual Holiday Party will be held Sunday December 4th at the Knapp house, as usual. All are welcome.

Also, Tuesday March 21st, we will have our annual membership meeting. If you didn't here Mike Jesberger, local historian and reenactor, speak at our last membership meeting, come out in March bc he will be back. His topic of discussion is undecided as of, but based on his knowledge of history and the role our local area has played in it, we're sure it will be fascinating and worthwhile.

Lastly, I apologize if you've tried to view photos on our website recently. Having some technical issues. I'm working on it. Please check back.

I am not from your area but may be descended to the builder of Knapp Farm. I read: "“Knapp Farm – Montgomery Township, Map I.D. #9: The Knapp Farm property contains a main house and several surrounding buildings, including a barn. John Roberts, Jr. was most likely the builder of the house, which has stood since before the Revolutionary War. It is believed the George Washington stayed there in October 1777. “ source:http://www.docs.dcnr.pa.gov/cs/groups/public/documents/document/dcnr_002144.pdf page 111 ... Whom might I contact about this part of the history?
