NOTICE TO BERLIN LANDOWNERS
Please help keep roadways clear! Remember not to blow mowed grass clippings into the roadway. Additionally, please ensure trash bins are not accidentally left on the roadway.
19 V.S.A. § 1105 prohibits any person from obstructing a public highway or right-of-way. Blowing grass clippings or placing mowed brush into the street constitutes an unlawful obstruction or public nuisance.
23 V.S.A. § 1126 makes it illegal to deposit materials (including debris, branches, or hazardous substances) on a highway that could cause injury to persons or vehicles. Grass clippings in the road act like a sheet of ice to passing motorcyclists. If an accident occurs due to mowed debris, property owners can be held personally liable.
