Greetings from Historic Johnsonville

Greetings from Historic Johnsonville Former industrial complex and outdoor museum. In the 1830s, Emory Johnson and his family built a twine mill in the Moodus section of East Haddam, Connecticut.

The mill and surrounding homes of employees and families grew into a small community known as 'Johnsonville.'

In the 1960s, self-made aerospace industrialist Raymond Schmitt bought the mill and surrounding structures near his summer home in Moodus. Ray and his wife Carole saw the historic value of Johnsonville and transformed it into a picturesque Victorian landscape. Until the mid-1990s, Johnson

ville operated as an intermittent public space, hosting functions such as weddings, fundraisers and carriage rallies. The Christmas displays and celebrations at Johnsonville drew visitors from across the state. Learn more at the following links:
