Thank you Alabama League of Municipalities for putting together events such as this to keep our municipalities engaged and up to date.

Today, Mayor Nick Rutledge, Councilman Ellis Key, and Councilwoman Linda Crowe represented the City of Moody at the Alabama League of Municipalities 3rd Congressional District Luncheon in Opelika, joining Congressman Mike D. Rogers and municipal leaders from across the region.

Also pictured are ALM President and Riverside Mayor Rusty Jessup, Argo Mayor Randy Hettich, and Margaret Mayor Matt Tortorice.

Events like this matter. Building relationships at the congressional level opens doors for our city — and having Moody's leadership in the room ensures our community has a voice in conversations that shape the future of Alabama's municipalities.

Today I had the opportunity to spend some time with our officers as they trained for active shooter situations, something we all pray never happens.

Watching these men and women work to perfect their craft was truly inspiring. Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to protecting our community are second to none. Observing them train to quickly locate the offender, protect our children, and secure the scene was both intense and reassuring.

I sincerely hope and pray they never have to put this training into action, but I’m grateful to know they are preparing for the worst so they can protect us at our best.

Great job today to the Moody Police Department and our friends from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department. Thank you all for your commitment, sacrifice, and service to our community.

Working alongside our neighbors for the betterment of us all.

Great representation from St. Clair County today!
The mayors of Argo, Moody, and Springville joined local leaders from across East Central Alabama for the ALDOT East Central Region Strategic Planning Session, helping shape priorities for Alabama's next Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).

These discussions are an important opportunity for our communities to advocate for transportation investments that improve safety, strengthen connectivity, support economic development, and prepare our region for future growth.

We are grateful to our municipal leaders for taking the time to represent St. Clair County and to ALDOT for bringing together local governments and regional partners to ensure community voices help guide future transportation planning.

Working together today helps build a stronger, more connected tomorrow.

Come on out and enjoy the many food trucks, bouncy houses and new this year the foam Pit. You don’t want to miss it 5-9, fireworks will go off right around 9:00. .

07/09/2026

Thunder in the Park is Saturday July 11th! Fireworks will go up starting at 9pm. Please see the attached map for traffic flow after the event. This is the same way we did it for last years fireworks and Christmas parade.

1. If you park in the Fresh Value parking lot, you can exit Park Ave or Church Street. Please note: when traffic starts, the turn lane to Park Ave will be blocked AND you will not be able to cross over 411 to Park Ave. You will be able to turn on 411 going North or South.

2. If you park at CVS, playground area, tennis courts area, you will be routed off Dave Hill Drive and ONLY turn right heading towards Kelly Creek. The exits to 411 will be blocked.

3. If you park in the main City Park area, that traffic will be held for a few minutes while the Dave Hill traffic is cleared. Once flowing, main park traffic will flow. In the past, we have learned that once CVS traffic is pretty much out, we can let the main park traffic turn right or left.

4. The gravel lot across from the PD can also be used as parking this year. Depending on how CVS and the Park flow out, the traffic parked here most likely at first will be routed towards 411.

Please park accordingly. Depending on which side of Moody you live on, where you park depends if you have a direct route home or have to go the long way around!

Lastly, please pay attention to the officers directing traffic. We will try and clear traffic as fast and as safely as possible.

Please help us by sharing this post to help us inform other citizens.

Department Spotlight: Moody Fire Department 🚒

The Moody Fire Department is one of the most well-rounded public safety departments our city has to offer, and most residents don't realize the full scope of what they do.

Led by Chief Larry Horton, our department operates with 18 full-time and 10 part-time personnel — including 15 paramedics — covering 26 miles of community and serving 13,855 residents. The department is structured with Captain Chris Hall overseeing Operations, a Lieutenant handling Inspections and Investigations, and a Lieutenant overseeing the EMS Division to ensure our paramedics remain current on all state requirements and that the department maintains its state license.

When it comes to emergency response, they handle it all — fire suppression, advanced emergency medical services, rescues, and natural disasters. But their presence in this community extends well beyond emergency calls.

Every October, they're in Moody's schools and preschools for Fire Prevention Month, giving lectures and hands-on activities to make sure our youngest residents know what to do in an emergency. During November and December, they're actively participating in the Toys for Kids Campaign. Throughout the year, they offer blood pressure checks for walk-ins, CPR classes, annual fire inspections for local businesses, and residential and smoke alarm inspections upon request.

This is a department that takes its mission seriously — protecting life and property while staying deeply connected to the community it serves. If you'd like to take advantage of any of their services, don't hesitate to reach out.
