Chief Horton and his guys do a great job
Department Spotlight: Moody Fire Department 🚒
The Moody Fire Department is one of the most well-rounded public safety departments our city has to offer, and most residents don't realize the full scope of what they do.
Led by Chief Larry Horton, our department operates with 18 full-time and 10 part-time personnel — including 15 paramedics — covering 26 miles of community and serving 13,855 residents. The department is structured with Captain Chris Hall overseeing Operations, a Lieutenant handling Inspections and Investigations, and a Lieutenant overseeing the EMS Division to ensure our paramedics remain current on all state requirements and that the department maintains its state license.
When it comes to emergency response, they handle it all — fire suppression, advanced emergency medical services, rescues, and natural disasters. But their presence in this community extends well beyond emergency calls.
Every October, they're in Moody's schools and preschools for Fire Prevention Month, giving lectures and hands-on activities to make sure our youngest residents know what to do in an emergency. During November and December, they're actively participating in the Toys for Kids Campaign. Throughout the year, they offer blood pressure checks for walk-ins, CPR classes, annual fire inspections for local businesses, and residential and smoke alarm inspections upon request.
This is a department that takes its mission seriously — protecting life and property while staying deeply connected to the community it serves. If you'd like to take advantage of any of their services, don't hesitate to reach out.
