October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Saturday I witnessed an awful reminder of how this type of abuse can happen anywhere to anyone. I was at my in laws home in a simple middle class neighborhood in Pacifica where they have lived for over 50 years. We came home from dinner to the police, fire department and ambulance on their street. We quickly learned that there had been a murder/suicide. A man killed his girlfriend and then took his own life. A short time later, the young adult daughter of the woman who was killed was notified of her mom's death by a police officer. We were 20 feet from her when she was told. What we heard was devastating. The impact is real and painful.
PLEASE show your support this month for victims, survivors and family members who are left to grieve. Please attend an event, wear purple, tell someone about domestic violence, talk about it, encourage healthy relationships, learn more, just please, do something.
