A new month means a NEW leadership focus for our Mustangs! This week, we’re jumping into Habit 1: BE PROACTIVE! ⭐

Our students are learning that being proactive means recognizing one very important thing:

I AM IN CHARGE OF ME. 💚

We may not be able to control everything that happens around us, but we CAN control our choices, our attitudes, our words, and what we choose to do next.

This week, we’re challenging our Mustangs to practice TAKING INITIATIVE—seeing something that needs to be done and doing it without waiting for someone else to ask!

Families, you can help us practice at home, too! Ask your Mustang:

💭 “What is something you can take care of today without being reminded?”

And then... try REALLY hard not to remind them. 😂 We're building leaders here!

Because proactive leaders don't sit around waiting for great things to happen...

This Friday, let’s show our RC VIKINGS just how proud Rowan County is! We’re calling on EVERY Rowan County school to join us for a VIKING SPIRIT DAY! ⚔️💚

Students and staff—pull out your best Viking gear, green and white, jerseys, spirit wear, and anything that screams ROWAN COUNTY! Let’s turn our schools into a sea of Viking pride as we get ready to PACK THE HILL!

Then, bring that same energy to the stadium Friday night as the Rowan County Vikings take on Bath County for our HOMECOMING GAME! 🏈🔥

🐴💚💛 LEADING THE HERD! 💛💚🐴

Mrs. Graham's Third Grade Thinkers tied their first academic class goal to the class mission they developed together. Because being prepared for 4th grade is important to them, they originally set a goal of 6,767 combined MAP Reading + Math improvement points.

Yesterday, before they even knew if they had met that goal, they decided Reading and Math shouldn’t tell the whole story. They wanted to include their Science MAP points, too, and raised their goal to 9,000 points.

🥁 Their final class total: 9,975 points!

They surpassed their new goal by 975 points!

Of course, that called for a celebration! 🎉 The reward they chose was Pajamas & Pizza!

What Mrs. Graham said she loves most about this isn’t simply the score. They identified something important to them, connected it to their class mission, set a measurable goal, and then raised the bar before they even knew the results. That says a lot about this group of Third Grade Thinkers!

🇺🇸📚 Today, our flag flies at half-staff in honor of a true American treasure — Dolly Parton

Dolly gave the world so much more than an incredible collection of songs. She gave joy, kindness, generosity, and opportunity—and perhaps nowhere is that legacy felt more beautifully than in the millions of books she placed into the hands of children through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. ❤️📖

For those of us who spend our days helping children learn to read, dream big, and discover who they can become, that legacy feels especially meaningful.

Today, as our Mustangs look up and see our flag lowered, we hope they understand that sometimes a life touches so many others that an entire nation pauses to say: Thank you. You mattered. You made this world better.

Rest easy, Dolly. 🦋✨

Our second edition of Mustang Leadership News is here, and this week we’re focusing on something that helps shape EVERYTHING we do at Tilden Hogge:

Our school is so much more than a building—it’s a community. And the kind of community we have is created every single day by the choices we make. 💚

This week, our Mustangs are talking about what matters most, creating and LIVING their class mission statements, beginning with the end in mind, and recognizing that every single one of us plays a part in creating our school culture.

We’re challenging our students to think about one important question:

💭 “Did my choices today match the kind of Mustang leader I want to be?”

Families, this is a GREAT conversation to continue at home! Ask your Mustang what values are important in their classroom—or even talk together about the values that are most important to your family. 🏡💛

📊 And don't forget—MAP testing for our K–3rd grade Mustangs begins this week! A good night’s sleep, breakfast, arriving on time, and a little encouragement to simply DO THEIR BEST can make a big difference!

🏌️‍♀️🏓🔵 CALLING ALL JUNK DRAWERS & GARAGE STASHES! 😂🔬

Tilden Hogge families, we need your help with some upcoming SCIENCE experiments! 🧪⚡️

We are looking for donations of:

⛳ Golf balls
🏓 Ping pong balls
🔵 Marbles

If you have any lying around that you won’t miss (because apparently science requires us to raid everyone’s junk drawers 😂), we would LOVE to take them off your hands!

Donations can be sent to school with your student or dropped off in the front office.

Thank you for always helping us make learning hands-on, exciting, and maybe just a little chaotic! 💚💛🐴

🌟🐴 LEADER IN ME IS ALREADY IN ACTION! 🐴🌟

We may only be 8 days into the school year, but our Mustangs are already learning what it means to lead themselves AND lead alongside others! 💚💛

Our Kindergarten students and Mrs. Clark’s 3rd & 4th graders have been busy building their Leader in Me foundation through activities focused on the 7 Habits, listening to understand others, and sharing about themselves. ❤️

Students even worked together to create anchor charts filled with tips and ideas about the Habits that they can share with their classmates—because one of the best ways to deepen our own learning is to help someone else learn, too! 🧠✨

These first days aren't just about learning classroom routines. They're about building relationships, finding our voices, learning to listen, and creating classrooms where EVERY student knows they have the ability to lead. 🙌

Eight days down, and we are already seeing our Mustang Leaders shine! 🐴💚💛

📚🔍 READERS & THINKERS AT WORK IN 3RD GRADE! 🔍📚

Mrs. Clark’s 3rd grade Mustangs are already diving into their EL Education lessons and doing some BIG thinking! 💚💛

Students began with the beautiful story Rain School and worked on identifying the gist—what the text is mostly about—before digging deeper to determine the story’s central message, lesson, or moral. 📖💭

They’re learning that strong readers don’t just ask, “What happened?” They also ask, “What is this story trying to teach me?” 🧠✨

We love seeing our Mustangs reading closely, discussing their thinking, using evidence from the text, and learning that sometimes the most important part of a story is the message we carry with us after the last page. ❤️

Way to go, Mrs. Clark’s 3rd graders! Keep reading, thinking, and discovering! 🐴💚💛
