"Individuals with FASD may be over or under-sensitive to certain sensory inputs, meaning that they may be so focused on what they hear, see, or feel that they can’t focus on other things. Sensory processing impairments can affect an individual’s learning, physical functioning, and behavioural development. Here are just some of the sensory disabilities individuals with FASD may experience."

Born in our hearts!

Born in our hearts!

"I started watching the Babies documentary on Netflix today.
In the first episode, scientists did a study on what happens in parent's brains when we fall in love with our babies. They compared the bonding hormones that are released in the body when you have a baby biologically to the hormones released in adoptive couples.

I don't usually cry over scientific research, but this one confirmed something I've always known.

They showed that the amygdala; that primitive, mama bear part of our brain that lets us know that we are responsible for another life and makes us hypervigilant in protecting, loving and nurturing our child, is opened during pregnancy, child birth and nursing and remains active for the rest of your life.

But the most surprising discovery to these scientists was what they found when they studied this same part of the brain in adoptive parents who became primary care givers to a child from different biology.

Their amygdala was open and activated to the same extent as a biological mothers. The bonding hormones in both types of parents were identical.

Their research proved that becoming a parent had nothing to do with biology or having a baby, and everything to do with simply choosing to love and care for a child for the rest of your life. It's the choice to parent that makes you one.

As someone who never thought I'd get the chance to be a mother, there isn't a discovery out there that feels more important than this one." -Kortni Miller

A heartfelt thank you to the Bingham County Christmas Tree Fantasy for their generous donation tonight to the Idaho Foster & Adoptive Parent Association. The CTF made this donation to update the visitation room in the Blackfoot H&W office. We appreciate their support of our children and their families!

👏👏👏thanks Heidi Mansfield!

For their 50th birthday celebration, one of our PRIDE trainer's family and friends donated 26 (!) suitcases for foster children. Sometimes, when children are removed from their homes their valuables are placed in a garbage bag because they don't own a suitcase. These donated suitcases might help during this difficult transition. Thank you so much to everyone that donated!

Hurry and sign up before it fills up! It’s going to be a lot of fun!

Every year, thousands of children are removed from their homes by officials who fear for their safety—only to be returned within days. It “felt like being kidnapped,” one said.

Live in Meridian or Caldwell and want to help?

Feel like cookies? Clothing sorting? Caring for kiddos in care by making sure they have access to nice clothes? Then please come partake in our cookies and company while helping to count and sort Wardrobe inventory on March 14th in Meridian.

We currently have about 4+ storage units worth of donations which we not only need to report to the IRS on our taxes now that we're an official 501c3 (woohooh!) but we also need to sort them into their correct sizes so we can find the items our clients ask for. Our location in Caldwell only fits one bin of each size at a time, so we ask at the time we schedule the appointment, "Hey, are there any particular items that they'd like?" The guardian often has an answers. Horses or pink or hoodies or Nike shoes, etc. Lots of certain things they wish to have. But unless things are sorted into the right sizes, it's a hit and miss process of finding those special items. Hence, we'd really like to have about 20-30 volunteers stop by during the morning/early afternoon of March 14th, in pre-arranged shifts, to help sort and count those donations into labeled, categorized boxes. If you can help, please email or message us to set up a time or get some more details. Thank you all for your continued support, prayers, and well wishes. #Volunteering #Meridian #Inventory #FosterCare

What a wonderful way this business has chosen to support foster children. This is in another state - however, if you live in the state of Idaho and would like to do an in-kind donation like this, please contact us!

THANK YOU!

Because you were all so great at getting the word out about our free birthday cakes for children in foster care, in 2019, we were able to provide over 25 local foster children birthday cakes for their special day!

This year, our goal is to double that! We are asking you all to please share this post, and help us reach as many foster families in the area as possible!

Roxanne Printz, right, deputy administrator for Family and Community Services, and foster and adoptive parent Cindy Floyd, left, presented a session about Child Welfare in Idaho today at the Statehouse as part of Foster Care Awareness Day. Stressing the collaborative nature of the Idaho's child welfare system, Printz said, "It takes a village to do this work … and I am relieved about that." It was so well attended that people had to sit in the committee chairs. Thanks to everyone who attended! #DHWCares #idleg

Lying. Children lie from fear and stress. For a child from trauma, lying is a way of survival. In many instances with traumatized children, lying has become a way of life – the “normal” way of life. For them, lying is survival – to keep from dying!
