Tri-County Heritage Library Formerly the Tri-County Heritage Society, now part of the Hay Creek Valley Historical Association.

n Valley Rd., Elverson, Pa. This is on the road between Route 23 and Twin Valley High School, and is a small yellow building surrounded by a chain link fence. We are open on Tuesdays from 1PM to 5PM by appointment, except on holidays. (Contact us via email or during the above hours for appointments outside those times.)

Today is the anniversary of D-Day - June 6, 1944.

Clarence E. Fillman is listed on the Caernarvon (Berks) War Memorial. Private Fillman served in Co. L, 17th Infantry, 29th Division in WWII. He was killed in action on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France on June 6, 1944 at the age of 26.
Following his death he was buried in the U.S. Cemetery in St. Lawrent, France. Following the war, in 1949, he was reinterred at the Elverson Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Honey Brook Post of the American Legion.

Another one of our local WWII veterans listed on the monument is William H. James. He also landed on Omaha Beach as part of the Allied D-Day invasion. He returned home from the war.

Please take the time today to remember these two men.

Before there was a Morgantown Carnival there was the Morgantown Fireman's Fair. Here are two 1940s posters for the fairs found in our collections of Honey Brook Heralds.

The fair was located in the same location as this year's Morgantown Carnival which will be held June 9 to 13th. Come on out!

We are still in need of more Twin Valley yearbooks - 1939-1943, 1945-1946, 1978-1980, 1984-2012 and 2025-2026. Here is a photo of the Caernarvon Twp., Berks Co. War Memorial which is located at the Col. Jacob Morgan American Legion Post 537 in Joanna.
The second picture is a photograph of Col. Jacob Morgan’s gravestone at St.Thomas Episcopal Church in Morgantown. This photograph is included in a recent set of photos donated to the library.
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. In the late 1860s, people would decorate the graves of fallen Civil War soldiers with flags and flowers. (Union General John A. Logan called for an official nationwide day of remembrance on 5/30/1868). After WWI, the holiday honored all fallen members of the American Armed Forces. But it wasn’t until 1971 that Memorial Day became a federal holiday.

You're invited to our Open House at our new location at 219 Mill Rd., Morgantown beside Masthof Press and Bookstore. Date is Sunday, April 19 from 2-4 pm. We will have displays, light refreshments and sales of maps and books. One of the maps for sale is a copy of a British spy map from the time of the American Revolution.
