We encourage residents of District 3 to vote for Mirkin and Emmons for Fire Commissioner this Saturday. End the reckless spending of your tax dollars.
Message from Michael Mirkin:
"Dear Friends and neighbors,
As you may and may not know I have volunteered to run for a Fire Commissioner seat in Fire District #3. Over the years I have voiced my concerns and have tried to organize grass root efforts to address many financial and operation issues in Marlboro government, and Marlboro Board of Education. I find myself once again, where we as a community are facing mismanagement, lack of transparency and the prospect of additional taxes and expenses for residents of Marlboro.
Unlike my opposition, I am not part of the first responder community in town. However, being a Fire Commissioner does not require me to jump on a truck or run into a burning house or extricate an injured person from a car wreck. It does however require me to be a good business and financial manager, a job for which I am uniquely qualified for. Here are some of the highlights of my business experience.
" Over 20 years' experience in financial services in variety of leadership roles such as;
" Financing and deal structuring raising $100's millions for emerging stage companies and private organizations.
" Senior business management for operating units with billions of dollars of balance sheet usage and with $10's of millions in operating budgets.
" Extensive experience with Operation and Regulatory Risk, having managed relationships with Securities Exchange Commission, The Federal Reserve, and Office of Comptroller of Currency and leading transformational change management programs in response to regulator concerns.
Also, unlike my opposition I am running independently and I am NOT on Jon Hornik's ticket. Being an independent means that I do not OWE anyone anything, I want to serve my community to best of my abilities. To this point and if elected, I am DONATING my Fire Commissioner stipend back to the district to establish a scholarship fund to attract new members. Can my opponents say the same?
What You Should Know
Key Points & Concerns
" The current Board of Fire Commissioners is looking to close the Morganville Volunteer Fire Company (MVFC) and construct a new Fire House on Route 79 across from the Morganville Flower Farm.
" As an interim step the Board of Fire Commissioners is earmarking $80,000 in their annual budget for the construction of a pole barn.
" A new budget will be voted on after the election and;
" If the budget is approved and this project completed, they seek to remove all district‐owned fire apparatus from the well-maintained Tennent Rd firehouse.
" This would increase response times for members of the Morganville Volunteer Fire Company.
Why Should You Care
" Residents of District 3 may experience changes in their Homeowner's Insurance due to their increased distance from a fire station(NJDOBl).
" The board will be spending this money to construct storage for apparatus that are already adequately stored.
" The construction of the pole barn and future removal of fire apparatus is the first step in the current board's plan to construct a new firehouse on Rt. 79. The project has been estimated at over $6,000,000. THIS MONEY WILL NEED TO BE RAISED THROUGH A BOND ISSUE. POTENTIALLY INCREASING YOU'RE YOUR FIRE DISTRICT TAXES WHICH ARE CURRENTLY OVER $1MM PER YEAR.
" The bond issue does not include money they have already spent towards this goal, which includes over $350,000 for a 3-acre property adjacent to the Rt. 79 firehouse. Of the 3-acre property approximately 1 -acre is useable and the rest protected wetlands.
" NO ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS HAVE BEEN EXPLORED TO MINIMIZE FINANCIAL AND COMMUNITY IMPACT!
Challenges & How Its Being Managed
" Like many volunteer fire companies, membership in general has been hard to find. The board has done little to help this issue and has left the fire companies to manage their own recruiting efforts.
" Over the past few months, the Morganville Volunteer Fire Company has added 5 certified firefighters to our membership through IT's own recruiting efforts.
" There have been calls where neither fire company has had enough members to respond and MVFC have joined with Morganville Independent Fire Company during these times.
