We assisted Dandridge Volunteer Fire Department yesterday with this call. There were crews and trucks from at least 7 departments who responded.

Think volunteer firefighters don't impact your life? Think again.

Volunteer firefighters and their departments are critical to providing fire protection in Tennessee. Take a look at the numbers:

-54% of the state’s population receive fire protection from departments utilizing volunteers.

-95% of the state’s geography receives fire protection from departments utilizing volunteers (either a combination department of volunteer and career firefighters or completely volunteer).

-Over 70% of the state’s fire departments are staffed entirely by volunteers.

- Tennessee has 12,460 volunteer firefighters, which is 59.1% of the population of Tennessee’s fire service.

This morning all volunteer departments would be dispatched to a structure fire on Sulphur Springs Rd. Upon arrival units found a fully involved mobile home. South Engine pulled 2 lines and began extinguishing the fire, North, East and West tankers would relay water to the engine. Approximately 25 members would worked togetherfor 2 1/2 hours to extinguish fire.
