Graduation will take place July 19 at 1 p.m.

At tonight's board meeting it was decided that Commencement will take place on July 19 at 1:00 in the high school gym. We wanted to get this information out to you as soon as possible. Of course, this is all subject to change based on COVID-19 restrictions.

We want to thank our home town heroes on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic and on April 30th the Record-News will be running a full color, full page ad thanking all the essential workers in Ringgold County for their dedication in this time of crisis.

The RCCB Scavenger Hunt is actually on the POE HOLLOW trails and NOT the Nature Trail as I erroneously stated in the article on page 14 of the Record-News this week. My mistake! Happy (scavenger) hunting down the Poe Hollow trails!

Clearview Homes in Mount Ayr has put Coronavirus precautions and visiting restrictions in place. How they are handling the situation is outlined below.

Coronavirus Precautions & Visiting Restrictions
Clearview Homes and Clearview Estates

1. Resident safety is a top priority for Clearview Homes. Every resident and family should have a clean, safe living environment. We agree that the spread of this novel virus is a critical issue that requires attention. Our goal is to try and keep the virus out and if it is found in the center, to minimize the spread to anyone else.

2. Clearview Homes is in close contact with our local and state health departments, as well as the CDC, to stay up to date on the information to prevent and manage the spread of Coronavirus. We are currently following their guidance and recommendations.

3. We rely on local, state and federal resources to help prevent the spread of this virus, and we appreciate everything they’re doing currently.

4. We have reviewed and updated our infection prevention and control plans and our emergency communication plan.
5. We have reinforced to our staff that anyone who is sick should stay home.

6. We are following the same infection prevention procedures used during flu season: handwashing, using alcohol-based hand sanitizers, covering coughs, and disinfecting the environment.

7. We are asking non-essential visitors, including family members, contractors, and volunteers to avoid visiting our facility for the time being. Loved ones can communicate with residents by using video chat, calling, texting, or checking in on social media.

8. We are posting signs on our entryway doors to notify visitors of this policy and actively screening individuals, including staff, who need to come into the building.

9. We need to make sure family members have given us the most current emergency contact information, so we can continue to keep them informed should there be any new developments.

The Raiders fell just short of a State Tournament bid tonight as the Martensdale-St. Mary's Blue Devils routed the Raiders 46-41. Full details in the March 5 edition of the Record-News.

The Raiders advance to substate in Creston this Saturday at 7 p.m. after defeating Bedford 58-48. They will face Martensdale-St. Mary's for a shot at State.

The Raiderettes fell to Logan-Magnolia tonight in a game that went the distance. LoMa will advance to play ASHTW in Harlan on Wednesday. The Raiderettes finish the season 19-4.

A good night to be a Mount Ayr Raider as the Mount Ayr basketball team clipped the Clarinda Academy Eagles wings, routing them to a 71-19 victory to advance to the semifinal round against Sidney Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in Mount Ayr.

In addition, the Raider wrestlers saw Drew and Trae Ehlen and Bryce Shaha win their first round matches, while Jaydon Knight lost his first round match but came out on top in the consolation round to stay alive at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Tomorrow night the Raiderettes travel to Red Oak to battle Logan-Magnolia while the wrestlers will continue their fights on the mats.

Drew Ehlen,Trae Ehlen, Bryce Shaha and Jaydon Knight will move on to the State Wrestling Meet! The Raiders took 6 and advanced four, while Webb narrowly missed with a 3rd place and Morales finished out 4th.

DISTRICT WRESTLING UPDATE:

Wrestling in Pleasantville has been underway. So far Drew Ehlen, Bryce Shahe and Trae Ehlen have punched their tickets to State, while Jarrett Webb finished 3rd.

Jaydon Knight won his first bout but lost in the championship round and will look to take 2nd place. Donovan Morales is awaiting his matchup against Colton Willis for a shot at the 2nd place spot.

The Raider wrestling team defeated Maryville tonight as well as Bedford/Lenox in a match that came down to the final weight class at 113 pounds. Jarrett Webb defeated his opponent by a fall to give Mount Ayr the victory.

Seen below is the Raider coaches the moment Webb pinned his opponent giving the Raiders the win.

Tonight the Raiders and Raiderettes faced off against Van Meter.

The Raiders fell 48-43 to drop to 12-2 on the season while the Raiderettes got a big win, 62-24, to improve to 13-2 on the season. In addition, Sam Stewart broke the All-Time scoring record that was set by Kelcie Shields at 1,238 career points. Stewart ended the night with 1,268 career points and 5 more games left in the regular season.

Tonight the Raiderettes improved to 12-2 with and exciting victory over Martensdale-St. Mary's.

The Raiders, however, were handed their first loss of the season at the hands of the Blue Devils.

Next up, Van Meter will come to Mount Ayr on Tuesday.

Tonight the basketball teams traveled to Leon to face Central Decatur. The Raiderettes snapped the Lady Cardinals 64 game win streak over the POI.

The Raiders also won, improving to 10-0 on the season.

Also, school has been cancelled for Friday. Enjoy the snowday!

The Raiders improved to 9-0 while the Raiderettes moved to 8-2 on the season.

They will head to Leon on Thursday for a matchup against Central Decatur.
