It is with great sadness and regret that the Mount Gilead Police Department has to report our K-9, Seger, will have to be put down.
As most of you know, Seger was diagnosed with cancer and had responded well to treatments. Seger was cancer free and had returned to work.
This past weekend it was found that the cancer returned, was more aggressive and was taking a toll on Seger. The decision was made to put Seger down so that he not have to suffer any longer.
Seger will make one final patrol through town this evening. Those wishing to show their support and/or pay tribute may do so at 6:15pm along Main Street as Seger takes his last ride.

Seger will be missed by everyone. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sgt. Tom Cronenwett and his family as they mourn their loss.
