Residents of Morrow County: Please understand that, in addition to keeping you safe, it is also our intention to keep our first responders safe and protected from COVID-19. We ask that if you have questions or concerns related to COVID-19 (Corona Virus) to please call 1-833-427-5634 which is the Ohio Department of Health’s Corona Virus hotline for questions and resources. If you do call 9-1-1 for a true emergency and are also experiencing flu-like symptoms, we ask that you notify the 9-1-1 dispatcher so that they can inform the responding personnel to put on the appropriate protective equipment. The dispatcher will also ask you a series of questions to screen for Covid-19. Also, please know that the 9-1-1 dispatcher will more than likely ask for you to walk to your front door or garage (if the weather is poor). This is in an attempt to limit the number of first responders entering the homes of patients who may be positive for COVID-19. Please wait at your front door. Do not walk out to the EMS vehicle unless requested to do so by the first responders. As always, it is a good idea to contact your physician prior to calling 911 for flu like symptoms....Thank you.

Attention Morrow County residents, we are constantly working to ensure the health and safety of the citizens we serve. With that in mind, certain changes to our methods of operation have become necessary to ensure patients are being managed in a way that best consumes the resources available.

Please be advised that Morrow County EMS crews will immediately begin screening patients that call for our services. Any patient that calls for symptoms of a flu-like illness will be screened by the crews at the scene of the call. The crew will then make a decision as to whether or not the patient’s condition requires transport to an emergency department. If the patient condition requires further evaluation at an emergency department, that patient will be placed in isolation precautions and transported as appropriate. If it is decided that the patient does not meet criteria making transport necessary, they will be educated on the best practices to manage their condition. These decisions have been made in coordination with our medical director.

If you are feeling ill and believe you may be exhibiting symptoms of the COVID 19 Coronavirus, it is recommended you contact your primary care physician by phone for further direction. Also, Ohio Department of Health has a hotline available at 1-833-427-5634. Morrow County Health Department also can be contacted at 419-947-1545 for further guidance.

These steps have been taken in accordance with direction from Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

THE PROPER USE OF 9-1-1. Please only call 9-1-1 in a true emergency. If you are worried about symptoms you may be experiencing and/or think you may need to be tested, do NOT call 9-1-1. Call your doctor, or the Ohio Department of Health hotline at 1-833-427-5634 from 9am to 8pm daily.

9-1-1 can not send a person to test you nor can they authorize a test.

When you do have to call 9-1-1 for an emergency, our dispatchers are trained to ask medical questions. However, if you have been told by a medical professional or know you have been with someone who has tested positive for #COVID19, please tell the 9-1-1 dispatcher ASAP so that our first responders can protect themselves upon arrival.

Calling or visiting the ER for a COVID-19 test? DON’T!

Emergency rooms across Central Ohio tell us they are overwhelmed today with people who think they have the virus. That is NOT the place or method to be tested. Geoff Redick is #LIVE with Dr. Joseph Gastaldo, M.D. at OhioHealth answering questions about YOUR symptoms and suspicions.

Call the Ohio hotline for more as well: 1-833-4-ASK-ODH.

Message to the public:

“If you plan to use Morrow County EMS for treatment and transport of patients who are exhibiting any flu symptoms, please give the 911 operator detailed information about the symptoms the patient is exhibiting.

Also, if the patient has recently traveled outside of the United States, that information is vital.

Additionally, upon arrival of EMS personnel, please repeat that same information before we make direct contact with the patient.

I am sure everyone can understand how important it is for us to keep our EMTs and paramedics healthy and able to respond.

We will take all necessary precautions, however, the more information we have about the patient, the better.”
