Rebuild the Centerton Bridge

Rebuild the Centerton Bridge The Centerton Bridge in Burlington County, New Jersey has been closed since 2015. There are many bridges in Burlington County that are structurally deficient.

This page provides updates to those who used the bridge and support rebuilding it. The lack of concern about the bridge or the people impacted by its closure is troubling. Over 14,000 used this bridge daily (per the US Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration), but the county has decided to invest in bridges with less traffic. Other bridges in "better" shape hav

e been placed as priorities in the NJDOT Statewide Transportation Improvement Program since 2011, but never the Centerton Bridge. Our county isn't prepared to address them. That should be a concern to everyone.

Info regarding Parker Creek’s Bridge. Public info session on April 7 from 6-8 p.m. at 1900 Briggs Road in Mount Laurel.

With the permanent closure of County Bridge 03C4004 (Centerton Bridge) over the Rancocas Creek, this County Bridge .13 (Parker’s Creek Bridge) is a primary connector for individuals travelling between Willingboro and Westampton Townships to Mount Laurel and Moorestown Townships. This section of Centerton Road is also one of the main roads that leads to the entrance and exit of I-295 interchange (43 A&B). County Bridge .13 carries 2 lanes of opposing traffic and approximately 3.5’ shoulders on each side of the road.

The bridge currently lacks sidewalks and does not have bicycle compatible shoulders. Major improvements are needed for this bridge due to the structure’s age (over 100 years), structurally deficient status and scour critical status, and it is functionally obsolete.

Whether the bridge will be rehabilitated or replaced, the construction work will address the structural deficiencies, scour problems, non-standard bridge width and bicycle and pedestrian compatibility. The project will also include roadway improvements (guiderail, paving, sidewalk), as well as installation of scour countermeasures.

Burlington County, in cooperation with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) is developing a plan to replace the Parkers Creek Bridge (Bridge C4.13).

The bridge is located at the border of Moorestown and Mount Laurel on Centerton Road, near Laurel Creek Country Club Golf Course. The County plans to replace the existing 32-foot arch bridge with a single-span, 85-foot prestressed concrete box beam structure supported by deep foundations. As part of the proposed project, the roadway will be widened to accommodate two 12-foot lanes, two 8-foot right shoulders, and a 10-foot shared-use path along the southern side of the project.

The bridge was originally constructed in 1906 and was reconstructed and widened in 1957. It is currently rated as structurally deficient, scour critical and functionally obsolete, and recommendations are that it be replaced.

The replacement project is currently in the Preliminary Design Phase.

A Public Information Meeting about the replacement project will be held on April 7th, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Burlington County Engineer’s Office, 1900 Briggs Road, Mount Laurel. During the meeting, Burlington County officials and engineers will provide an update on the proposed project plan, bridge conditions, proposed traffic controls and anticipated construction schedule.

All members of the public are welcome to attend and ask questions about the project. Written comments may also be submitted for inclusion in the project record until April 24th. Following the April 7th meeting, the presentation will be posted online on the County website and both Mount Laurel and Moorestown websites.

Burlington County voters don’t have to wait until Election Day on Nov. 4 to cast their votes. Early voting for the General Election begins on Saturday, October 25, and Burlington County Elections officials are alerting voters to additions and changes to early voting polling locations where they can securely cast their ballots.

Nine early voting locations will be open during the 9-day early voting period from Saturday, Oct. 25, through Sunday, Nov. 2. That’s two more locations than the seven used before the 2024 General Election.

“Voting is one of our most fundamental rights so we are pleased to offer Burlington County voters additional polling locations that will be open during the early voting period,” said Burlington County Election Board Chair Heather Cheesman. “All nine locations will be open daily during the early voting period to allow voters from any Burlington County municipality multiple days to go to the polls to vote when it’s most convenient for them and their schedules.”

The new early voting locations are the Cinnaminson Community Center, 902 Manor Road, Cinnaminson, and the Faith Deliverance Worship Center, 1204 Route 130 North in Burlington Township.

The Cinnaminson Community Center first opened as an early voting site before this year’s Primary Election.

The Faith Deliverance Worship Center location replaces the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Burlington City, which was used as an early voting site for the Primary.

In addition to those locations, an early voting location in Evesham/Marlton is now at the Blue Barn Recreational Facility, 1004 Tuckerton Road, Marlton. Evesham’s Gibson House Community Center was previously used as an early voting site, but the location was moved to the Blue Barn before the June Primary.

All nine locations will operate with the following hours during the early voting period: 10 AM to 8 PM on weekdays and Saturdays and from 10 AM to 6 PM on Sundays.

Any registered voter is eligible to cast their ballot at an early voting location. However, voters who have already requested or received a vote-by-mail ballot who wish to vote at an early voting location or Election Day polling place will be required to vote with a provisional ballot to ensure that multiple votes are not cast by the same person. All valid provisional ballots are counted in the vote totals for each election.

Please review the proposal (link is in the comments) and provide comments about a possible rehabilitation or replacement of the Parkers Creek bridge on Centerton Road. Total fiscal year 2026-2035 projected cost is $8.9 million.

Will never understand why they never listed the Centerton Bridge for a rehabilitation or replacement in the Transportation Improvement Plan for New Jersey.
