In my farewell address on the Senator floor, I thank my staff, colleagues, supporters, and constituents for the honor of serving as State Senator for the 37th District, and share some parting thoughts on the importance of respecting democratic norms and institutions.

I voted “no” on the state budget. I could not support a budget that failed to direct CARES funding to provide relief to working families, small businesses, front-line workers, schools, and non-profits. I could not support a budget that made cuts to environmental stewardship and infrastructure maintenance programs. I appreciate that a deficit forces difficult decisions, but this budget was not the way to best position Pennsylvania for a recovery from the pandemic and resulting economic crisis.

Transgender Day of Remembrance is an important time to highlight the losses of human life due to anti-transgender bigotry & violence.

I'm pleased to announce that the Pennsylvania Department of Education has awarded three school safety grants to the 37th District:

Baldwin-Whitehall School District: $16,000
Quaker Valley School District: $19,800
West Jefferson Hills School District: $20,000

The grants can be used to prevent and reduce violent incidents, to purchase safety and security-related equipment, and to provide for the training and compensation of school resource and police officers.
