We've had quite a few storms this winter, and as I understand it, the groundhog saw his shadow, so we have another six weeks more still to come. Be sure to look for the sign-up list for free brush chipping to take place early this spring to help clean up when it's all said and done!

UPDATE: All slots are filled for April 13-17, 2026 no-fee brush chipping.

To help manage the extra branches left by winter weather, an early, no-cost brush pickup will be offered this spring. The City of Mt. Pleasant will provide an early free brush chipping service during the week of April 13–17.

This pickup gives residents a convenient way to clean up after winter storms, while our regular fee-based program continues for those wanting service sooner.

Registration is required and will open Monday, March 30, 2026. Complete sign-up details will be announced before registration opens.

I’d like to extend my gratitude to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for choosing our community's vision to receive these grant dollars, and to the teams at the City of Mt. Pleasant, MI and the Middle Michigan Development Corporation for their tireless efforts to bring this opportunity home to Mt Pleasant.

This is a truly incredible investment into our community, and I am excited to see it's development!

The City of Mt. Pleasant has received a $2.79 million grant from the Michigan Talent Partnership Program to build a new multi-use pavilion in Island Park. This facility will include a commercial ki…

For those watching yesterday's City commission meeting, you may have noticed I was not in attendance. I unfortunately caught a cold and needed to take some time to rest yesterday and today. Feeling much better- be sure to take care of yourself and talk to those around you if you need some extra support! My thanks to the Vice Mayor Maureen N Eke for filling in during my absence!

This project has interested me since before my time on the commission. Regular rail travel along this route would be transformational to our City, Region, and State as a whole.

When communities are connected by a diversity of transportation methods, they are more attractive as places to live, build a business, and grow. Investments into regular passenger rail travel would place Mt Pleasant at the heart of a new north-south route. It will take time, and it will be an investment, but this kind of development would be a gift to our community and to future generations of Michiganders.

The North+South Passenger Rail Project is exploring a new intercity train service connecting Southeast Michigan, mid-Michigan, and the northwest Lower Peninsula. The proposed service is intended to provide a safe, sustainable, and convenient way to travel while expanding access to communities across the state.

Groundwork Center, which is leading the project, has launched a website with project information and a community survey. Residents who want to provide input or learn more can access the survey at northsouthrail.org.

At our Monday night meeting I was re-appointed, along with the wonderful Maureen Eke, to continue serving as Mayor and Vice-Mayor by our colleagues on the Mt Pleasant City Commission. I am grateful for their continued trust and confidence to serve in this leadership position for our board, and for our city.

As Mayor, I serve with an equal voice on the commission amongst my fellow commissioners, all of whom are elected at large throughout the city. As Mayor, I chair our meetings and help organize and set our agenda throughout the year. Together we set policy and develop goals and objectives for the City Manager who is responsible for day-to-day operations.

I look forward to the work ahead of us this year and continue to be ever humbled to serve my friends, neighbors, and fellow city residents in this position. I will continue holding office hours on the first Wednesday of the month at the Green Tree Co-Op Grocery dining/cafe area from 6-7 pm.

On Friday I had the opportunity attend a meeting of the Isabella County Community Collaborative (ICCC). I was able to hear from a multitude of local community leaders of nonprofits and governmental organizations. Everyone continues to be concerned about the challenges affecting SNAP benefits stemming from the ongoing government shutdown, as well as an avalanche of other reductions in federal funding that have started to take effect.

It's important to know that here in Mt Pleasant we are graced with many different organizations and community groups that are doing the work of helping those who find themselves in need. Wherever you are at, if you need help or are going through difficult times reach out- you can call 2-1-1, sponsored by United Way, to get connected with resources in the local area.

Congrats to the Mt Pleasant Oilers on their amazing win last night!

Hello everyone! It has been a busy month for me- I've been away from my Mayoral duties as I got married earlier this month and had the opportunity to take some personal time shortly after.

A few fun things I did in my role as Mayor- last Friday I had a great time at the Mt. Pleasant Discovery Museum's Fall Fest Fundraiser! It was wonderful seeing the different exhibits, meeting some of their staff, and hamming it up as a participant in their dunk tank (don't worry- the water wasn't too cold!).

On Thursday this week I sat down with CMU President Neil MacKinnon, I gave him a gift to celebrate his first CMU Homecoming as president of Central Michigan University and we were able to talk about a number of important issues affecting both the University and the City. Wishing him and the entire CMU community a happy homecoming- Fire up Chips!

My normal office hours this evening have been canceled due to my upcoming wedding! For this reason, I will also be absent from the next City Commission meeting scheduled for 10/14/25 where Vice-Mayor Eke will chair the meeting in my place.

Individuals with pressing business may find me at the Mt. Pleasant Discovery Museum's Fall Fest Fundraiser on 10/17/25 from 5pm to 8pm where I have been asked to participate in the dunk tank!

Proceeds of the event will go to support the Discovery Museum's Fall Fundraising Drive. It should be a great family friendly event.
