On Jan. 26, frozen pipes at Isabella Community Soup Kitchen (ICSK) burst, and the resulting water damage forced ICSK to close its doors to the hundreds of people who rely on its free meals each week.
While repairs and renovation are still underway, the nonprofit, located at 621 S. Adams in Mt. Pleasant, continues to provide free meals to anyone in need at Max & Emily’s eatery downtown, Monday through Friday, 11AM–1PM.
It’s estimated to be another 4–6 weeks before ICSK will be ready to reopen.
Established in 1990, ICSK serves hundreds of people in need each week, including single-parent families, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, people without shelter or facing domestic violence, and other vulnerable residents. It provides both a free continental breakfast and a free hot lunch, Monday through Friday.
Although ICSK receives grants through the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation and gets some federal funding through the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, the organization relies heavily on donations. Interested community members can support ICSK through volunteering, helping with fundraising, or making food and monetary donations.
