ATM Skimmer: Were You Victimized?
An off-duty police officer called us when he noticed a fraud device (skimmer) on an ATM in the Huntington area on Friday, Nov 13.

The officer had inserted his card at Citi Bank ATM at the 7-Eleven, 5834 E North Kings Highway, around 11 a.m. when he noticed that the card slot fell off and he saw internal electronic components. After examining the machine, and the cash dispenser, he noticed a small hole and saw that there were batteries, a camera and a data storage device on the machine. The card slot and cash dispenser had been taped on.

The victim called us prior to making any cash transactions on the machine and was not victimized.

Police are asking customers to recall whether or not they may have used this machine recently as they don’t know exactly how long the skimmer was in place. Skimmers are growing phenomena and have been seen across Fairfax County and the region in recent years.

Additional tips include: Always check bank statements and look for discrepancies. Look closely at ATMs when making financial transactions. Skimming devices may be affixed loosely with tape; contact bank personnel and police immediately.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Solvers electronically by visiting www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text-a-tip by texting “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES(274637)** or by calling 1-866-411-TIPS(8477), or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.

It's been a busy week! I've spoken with Senator-Elect Scott Surovell and Delegate-Elect Paul Krizek to congratulate them both on well run campaigns. Congratulations to Senator-Elect Jeremy McPike, whom I've been proud to support for 3 years now. I look forward to everything they will do for our community...and watching it from my home in Alexandria and not down in Richmond in the cold and snow! Congratulations to all the candidates who won on Tuesday!

PRTC Emergency Service Plan

PRTC has posted the following route adjustments for the Pope's visit to DC: The Emergency Service Plan will be activated for ALL OmniRide routes all day on Wed., 9/23 and Thurs., 9/24. OmniRide buses WILL NOT serve regular destinations in DC and northern Virginia.
OmniRide buses will operate their regular local pick-up routing, according to the published schedules, in the morning, and local drop-off routing in the afternoon. Instead of their regular DC, Arlington and Tysons Corner stops, OmniRide buses will serve nearby Metro stations:
· Manassas OmniRide and Gainesville OmniRide routes will serve the Tysons Corner Metro Station.

· Eastern Prince William OmniRide routes will serve the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station.

· Metro Direct, OmniLink and Cross County Connector buses will operate their regular routes as scheduled.

The current Emergency Service Plan brochure is available at http://www.prtctransit.org/myprtc/esp.html

PRTC's Snow and Emergency Service Plan is a proactive, easy-to remember plan that provides passengers with maximum levels of safe transportation, in spite of challenging weather or traffic conditions.
