Join us Under the Mountain for a screening of KILL LIST (2011), Ben Wheatley’s devilish fusion of black-hearted noir and folk horror excess!

Eight months after a disastrous hit job in KIev leaves him physically and mentally scarred (and struggling to support his wife and son), Jay (Neil Maskell) is pressured by his partner and best friend Gal (Michael Smiley in a performance that earned him a British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actor) into taking a lucrative three-part assignment: kill a priest, a librarian, and finally a member of Parliament. As the two men—one a volatile hothead, the other a careful professional—carry out their work with shocking brutality, Jay’s world begins to unravel until paranoia and unexplainable visions send him plunging into the heart of darkness. A one-of-a-kind blend of hitman thriller and terrifying psychological horror film, KILL LIST is a mind-blowing genre concoction that captivates in its rawness.

Hello and how-do from the (unofficially-titled) TVs of Terror and Under the Mountain Horror Lovers Collective of the Greater Birmingham Area!

[Editor’s Note: We’ll work on a more pithy title soon.]

Thank you for your continued support of this wonderful initiative as we sail the high seas of all things spooky, unearthly, and downright creepy! As we roll our way into February, and are thrilled to announce yet another collaborative screening in anticipation of Adam Cesare’s upcoming visit to the O’Neal Library ( )on March 23rd. And in the spirit of collaboration, we once again bring you a downright freaky flick handpicked by Mr. himself. Behold, the iconic childhood frightmare that is...Ernest Scared Stupid!

Jim Varney is back as local man Ernest P. Worrell in another adventure, this time facing off against...TROLLS. (Not the doll.) When Ernest accidentally unleashes an evil troll, it’s up to him to save the town of Briarville, Missouri from the monster’s plot to transform all the children into wooden dolls. The gang is so excited to finally
bring a little of Ernest’s goofy sensibility to the stage, along with the blessing and assistance of Adam Cesare, who will provide a video intro specially made for the event. Woohoo!

As per usual, there’ll be eats and sips aplenty on-hand. Snacks, popcorn, pizza, wow! And for the adults in the audience (all shows are 18+, after all), there’ll be a special drink that should help ward off
any evil trolls that might show up. (Please be advised.)

Come by this February 11th at 8pm for a special VHS screening of Ernest Scared Stupid, and bring some mi-ak with ya! It’s gonna get gooey!

Join us Under the Mountain for a screening of 1997’s Cure (キュア), directed by visionary Japanese director, Kiyoshi Kurosawa!

Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s (Pulse) arresting international breakthrough established him as one of the leaders of Japanese horror while pushing the genre into uncharted realms of philosophical and existential exploration. A string of shocking, seemingly unmotivated murders—each committed by a different person yet all bearing the same grisly hallmarks—leads Detective Takabe (Koji Yakusho) into a disturbing game of cat and mouse with an enigmatic amnesiac (Masato Hagiwara) who may be evil incarnate. Awash in hushed, hypnotic dread, Cure is a tour de force of psychological tension and a hallucinatory journey into the darkest recesses of the human mind.

Under the Mountain returns to the O’Neal Library on Saturday, March 23 at 7:00pm, for an evening with the award-winning author, Adam Cesare!

“An author who knows how to make us afraid.” — Clive Barker

Originally from New York, Cesare attended Boston University where he studied English and film. Cesare’s love for both mediums inform his work: his 2012 novella Tribesmen follows a doomed Italian film crew in the 1970s who travel to a remote island where they plan to make a cheap horror flick that quickly becomes all too real; his upcoming Clown in the Cornfield 3: The Church of Frendo, despite its tongue-in-cheek title, takes a  more literary approach to the notion of what a slasher series can do, exploring the dangers of how we view others through forms of mass communication. In the ten years in between, Cesare has published nine books, worked in comic books for well-loved franchises such as The Dark Crystal and Adventure Time, and won the Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in a Young Adult Novel for his breakout release, Clown in a Cornfield. He has also written screenplays, including the upcoming adaptation of Clown in a Cornfield, which is being produced by Temple Hill Entertainment, the same company that released Smile (2022) and the HBO series adaptation of Stephen King’s The Outsider.

Doors at 6:30 pm, event begins at 7:00 pm.

This event is FREE and open to the public, followed by a Q&A and book signing.

will be on site with copies of Cesare’s books for sale.

Reserve your seat today for a chance to win a signed book by Cesare!

This event will be streamed live.

Let Under the Mountain be your valentine with a screening of 1981’s THE FUNHOUSE, directed by Tobe Hooper, the master of horror behind The Texas Chainsaw Massacre!

Rebellious teen Amy (Elizabeth Berridge) defies her parents by going to a trashy carnival that has pulled into town. Along for the fun are her boyfriend, Buzz (Cooper Huckabee), and their friends Liz (Largo Woodruff) and Richie (Miles Chapin). Thinking it would be fun to spend the night in the campy "Funhouse" horror ride, the teens witness a moment of shocking violence, only to then find themselves being stalked through the nightmarish carnival attraction.

Something is alive in the funhouse...
